i have a regular single disc cd player in my truck. my dads 05 has a 6 disc changer. i was going to buy a 6 disc for mine but there is only one harness in the dash that plugs into the back of the cd player and the 6 disc version has two harnesses. is there an adapter i can buy for it to work?

Only one harness is required to run a CD player. Truck #2 has a second plug for one of the following (or more):
XM radio
Lux amplifiers
On-Star
Any '03 non Bose stereo from a full size truck will work, BUT any other GM radio than the original to your truck will require the dealer to reprogram the VIN to match the truck and, possibly, the output (lux amp vs. no amp.) Shop pricing on reprogramming as it varies from $50 to infinity, depending on how smart your dealer is.

what would be the need for the reprogram?

All the '03 or newer full size GM truck radio (even the crappy Am/Fm only) are programmed with the VIN number of the truck they are installed in as a theft deterent, as opposed to the user changeable password code the '02 and older have. It is touted as an anti-theft feature:rolleyes:. Any replacement GM radio will have to programmed by the dealer ($50 and up) to function:mad:.

Any aftermarket radio will require an adapter harness to provide keyswitched power as there is no longer an accessory power wire in the harness.

i had an aftermarket cd player at one time and i had to get a little box that had a speaker in it to make the door chime noise and it was a really annoying sound compared to stock. is ther any way to dissable the little box for the noise part and make it still work? i tried unplugging it once to get rid of the noise but the cd player wouldnt work unless it was plugged in.

The box is required but you can either duct tape around the box (muffle the sound), or open the box and cut the speaker wire. They will still work with the speaker disabled. The last two I did had an internal circuit to cut allowing lower volume, but IMHO, it was still too loud, so I just duct taped the box, as I kinda like the chimes (multiple drivers and all).

Unplugging the box will disable the ignition power output.

If you don't give a damn about RAP (retained accessory power) or the chimes, you can add your own ignition circuit and not use a box at all. It will require tapping the accesory wire at the steering column, as I don't believe (I could be wrong) that there is an accessory output in the MBEC (the junction box where the brake controller plugs in). I know there is an Ignition 12v available in the socket to the right of the brake controller plug. I just never tested to see if it was accessory hot.
