: I might get kicked out of the forum for this?
dieseldan723 02-13-2005, 02:14 AM New Diesel owner here. I love reading all the posts and the replys. You guys are unbelieveable! Can't wait to start working on my truck to add some power mods.
Has anyone tried biodiesel? My friend told me I should because it has much better lubricating properties. There are even some stations in OR that sell it? Will it void my warranty?

The is a whole section.. See above link :D
Black Max 02-13-2005, 08:25 AM :shake: Nope! That won't get you kicked off. You'd have to do something more extreme than that.
StraitDiesel 02-13-2005, 08:44 AM What did he do that was extreme in the first place???
or wrong for that matter?

I think he's reffering to the placement of the post in this forum Duramax First Generation.
Not sure :confuzeld
StraitDiesel 02-13-2005, 08:53 AM He should read the ongoing twin (compound) turbo posts... that should make him feel better about not getting booted!!

DanI answered the post thinking the subject matter of bio-diesel was what he was questioning. Could be wrong though........again.
dieseldan723 02-13-2005, 03:52 PM You hit the nail on the head. Before ever checking into biodiesel I assumed it was for those who were getting oil from the local McD's putting it in their old VW's or something. I didn't think any SERIOUS diesel Fanatic would even consider it. Didn't want to insult anyone? :)

Now, if you REALLY want to try to get kicked out of the forum.....well, there are ways to do that!

Jesse 02-14-2005, 09:37 AM parent723,
I would like to try some biodiesel. I can't find any in upstate N.Y. Go figure, a state that has so many environmental laws, and I can't find a station that sells
any.
From what I have read, simply mixing some biodiesel with #2 at a 1 to 2% mixture will add great lubrication to the fuel. I would really like to try this especially when they start making the ultra low sulfur fuel. I figured if I add 1/2 to 1 gallon of b100 biodiesel to the tank with each fill up, it would give you a 2 to 4% mixture. If you can find a station that sells it, they should offer different
mixtures of 10, 20, 50%. Let me know if you try it and how it works.
Warranty issues- The manual says #2 diesel only.

Thanks, the only problem is the nearest station is over a 3 hour drive.

Not trying to call you guys out, but take it easy... I had just read the twin turbo posts before I read this and had "getting booted" on my mind. There's no need to be critical about me making light of a tough situation on the twin turbo posts. We are all adults on here, lets act like it.

Dan:confuzeld Re-read my posts........from the beginning. I guess you didn't get the humor in "more extreme"? Maybe I should have italicized it? I made no mention about the twin turbo posts or you. I wasn't even thinking about you, I had no idea what's on your mind, and I have no idea what you're so excited about. :sorrysign

StraitDiesel 02-14-2005, 11:50 PM Well guys, no problem here... I guess I was just wondering what he did wrong in the first place, because I didn't see any critical error on his part, so I asked what he did wrong... and you guys kind of got a little critical about it. I was just asking the question of what he did wrong (so I don't make the same mistake!) miscommunication is awful!

dieseldan723 02-15-2005, 12:10 AM Jesse,
I found a station that sells B20 and B100. I am going to get some B100 and try exactly what you said. I am not too worried about the temp here because it rarely gets below 30 degrees. I will let you know how it goes.

Jesse 02-15-2005, 09:03 AM Parent723,
Cool. I'm going to get some b100 this spring, like Dmax Tim suggested, and give it a try. I've heard that the mixture will help to quite things some, we'll see. Remember that you'll still want to run an additive to treat for water. I'll keep an eye on the thread or you can pm me. Thanks.
dieseldan723 02-16-2005, 12:09 AM How often do you need to add an "additive" for water? I have never had a diesel before and didn't worry about it with my gasser. Does it need to be added everytime you fill up? Thanks.
Jesse 02-16-2005, 11:16 AM Parent723
You'll have to decide for yourself. Do a search for "water, additive" and you'll have lots of reading. I think it is a good idea to treat for water with each fill up. The additives help with other things, cetane, lubrication, cleaning, etc. However, there are alot of people who use no additives and things are fine.
Try to buy good, clean fuel. It's key.
Remember, GM does not recommend any additives. From other threads I have read, it sounds like they may soon recommend Stanadyne (I think). Another important note is to change your fuel filter often. The manual says every 15k, but alot of members recommend every 10k.
Continue reading different threads and you'll get an education! This site is awesome.
Buckeye03 02-16-2005, 11:47 PM Parent,
Getting kicked off the Diesel Place here would require more than posting in the wrong section. At most, somebody might suggest that you might get better results in a different forum. However, if you were to STOP over at a certain Furd site and do the same thing, they would erase your post, delete your username, and lord knows what else.
Mackin 02-17-2005, 06:10 AM How often do you need to add an "additive" for water? I have never had a diesel before and didn't worry about it with my gasser. Does it need to be added everytime you fill up? Thanks.
Using a good quality additive with out and "alcohol" drying agents is preventive medicine.
Additives will emulsify (mix) or separate water for removal from the fuel filter drain petcock on the bottom of the filter spin on.I chose to emulsify and use FPPF additive. There are a host of different additives out there to use, just make sure it's alcohol free as that will dry up the seals in your Bosch injection system.Vendors sell it here by the case which maybe a better price than you can by locally by the bottle in some cases.I have found some locally at a Truck service part center although quite reasonable in price.
Additives will also increase cetane content ,the equivalent of Petro octane for a cleaner burn.
You will also clean and lubricate your fuel injection system to boot.
GM originally had a NO additive policy that has changed and I do believe there is information in the TSB forum .
Additive is a good thing! I add at every fill up
dieseldan723 02-19-2005, 11:47 PM Jesse,
I got some B100 yesterday. I was running VERY low so I had them put 10 gal in my tank and I also got a 5 gal can. I decided to run it on the B100 for a while (1 full day so far) before I added any fosil fuel. It is basically running solely on B100 right now. I can't say I noticed any difference yet, except for the complete lack of diesel exhaust smell! It seriously smells like Popcorn! I certainly don't plan to run on B100 completely, however I think that the benefits of better lubrication is worth it once in a while. By the way, the B100 station is only about 20 miles from my house so it's not too much of a pain, however it costs $3.61 / gallon!!!!
Later
Jesse 02-24-2005, 01:19 PM p723
$3.61/gallon, yikes!!! I'm glad things ran well for you. Let me know some time if you think the duramax is a little quiter. Some say it will be. It is still cold hear in NY, almost 0*f this morning, so I'm waiting till spring to try some bio.
Thanks, good luck.
