(What are you doing in front of the computer tonight - it's thanksgiving for you guys?? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif</v:stroke></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:ulas></v:path><o:lock aspectratio="t" v:ext="edit"></o:lock></v:shape>)
Tried to get my new H2 BFG 315/70/17's aligned today, technician said these BFG combined with the H2 Rim had too good of a rim guard (there's a hard part of rubber that sticks out and over the edge of the rim) he couldn't get his hooks in between the tire and the rim. He said he could reverse the hooks and grab the inside edge of the rim, but that would end up leaving marks. He said I could put the stock wheels back on for the alignment, but I didn't feel like putting back on what I just took off. I thanked him for not marking up the rims and left. (It's a Firestone Corp. shop with nearly new equipment)
Took it up the street to a GMC dealership, they had a look and said they weren't sure if they could do it either - they said they could do it on the inside of the rim in the same way the first guy said, but they were a little fuzzier on how much of a mark that would leave on my rimshttp://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ouch.gif. He said he could try deflating the tire slightly and get in-between the tire and rim and then pumping them back up.
If Hummers' come stock like this someone must be able to align them? I'm going to call the Hummer dealer (a different GM dealership in town) tomorrow morning and see what they say.
Anybody else with these wheels have this kind of a problem?
Thanks - hope you're all enjoying thanksgiving

I've never done one with hummer wheels but I have done several 4X4s with rim guard type tires. Letting some air out is the only way to do it. I once made the mistake of letting too much air out of a 35" tire and it unbeaded. That shouldn't be a problem though on smaller tires.

By the way, what are the GM specs for the front end alignment? I still need to get my H2 rims/tires aligned and will have a friend use his tried and true Snap-On type kit. To keep from marking the rims, we have used duct tape on the attachments and had great luck (no mars) for other vehicles that I have.
The place that does mine has spring straps with hooks that grab around the tire.

Thanks for the input - I'll give the guys at the GMC Dealership a shot, they charge what the other places around here charge. I'll bring along a roll of Duct tape http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gifjust in case they can't grab the tires when they drop the tire pressure.

You are correct...the BFGoodrich has a lip of rubber that gets in the way! And yes when they mount it on the wheel it will leave marks!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif I already have them!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
The next time I go in for a alignment I am going to put a strip of cloth tap where they mount the unit to the wheel....maybe that will work. I was also told they have rubber boots for when they use the wheel, the place that did mine did not have any....just my luck...they say the first scratch(s in my case) is always the hardest to get over.
Rim guard but not a alignment guard...Edited by: NoWake200

I've found the process of mounting and unmounting the tires on these rims also marks up the lips. I've had several done, and even when told and trying to be careful, they clip the rim edge. As I've mentioned before, these rims seem comparatively soft, and it's tough to keep them from getting marked up, be it mounting/unmounting, alignment, or even removing balancing weights.

Those of you using H2 take-offs with BFG 315x70R17s, what mods have you made to accept these wheels with a 35" tire and additional 1" of wheel backspacing?
I put a 6" lift kit on using a larger than stock spindle. The manufacturer says 4 5/8ths BS is max for this tire size and installers says because tires will rub on the upper a-arm. True?
Thanks,
Camstyn

It's true with some lift kits, but not with stock parts.
