I was once told that the ideal hill climbing RPMs are at the point that the horsepower line and the torque line cross - any validity to that?

Yes it seems the truck truck will pull anything up a grade at around 2300 rpm .

1800-2500 depending on how fast you want to climb and how much weight your pulling .

I run the banks six gun with PDA, when I run over 2500 rpm on grades my engine and exhaust temps are higher than what I believe are good for the truck. If your running with a tuner, be careful. If you run in the rpm range mentioned by Johnny, the truck will pull all day long even in hot weather.

I run tunes towing that keep my egt's no higher than 1250 pegged going up grades.

Usually tune level 2 PPE , 3 sometimes if only one truck .

Total Weight is a factor on egt's and how fast they move. The more you way the faster they move , but still top out the same by weight . Keeping it under 1300 is what I try to do when towing heavy and flogging it up grades . Ive towed on hot tunes alot and you have to baby the throttle and go a lot slower up grades or egt's go deep into the red .

I was towing from Flagstaff to Albuquerque yesterday with my 500HP tune. That thing would flat haul going up the hills and wouldn't slow down at all. But I also was getting 5 MPG. 2500-2700 RPMs.

Seeing that I filled up yesterday at $3.99, I decided I'd better put my doggy tow tune back in....oh well, it does get a solid 10 MPG towing. At least I feel better about my $600 fill up. LOL

Man Jerry 5mpg ....... The tow tune does sound a little better for your wallet .

Arent you making big EGt's on that big tune climbing grades . You should be , if not there is alot of timing in that tune and you should be careful running it with big weight behind you .

I've always been learing of towing with tunes. I put in the Edge Juice with Attitude, and run it either stock or in "tow" level, still getting some high EGTs. Need to put in an exhaust and intake.
