I was getting ready to buy a new JD468 round baler when I saw a farm sale bill with a 2006 model NH BR750 that has 1298 bales on it. Does anybody have either kind of baler? I am using a JD535 now.

The JD 468 makes kinda small bales doesn't it? Like 4'x5'? We run a JD 567 {5'x6' bales} and it's a great baler. Never been a fan of NH but never owned one.
We have a Vermeer 605L {5'x6' bales} for sale with only 8000 bales if interested. Really nice shape.

The JD 468 and the NH BR750 make 4'x6' bales. The JD 535 we have makes 5' x 6' bales. I sold all of my spring calving cows so now I will have alot of hay to sell and people pay the same for 4' wide as they will 5'. Most people around here buy hay by the bale not by the ton. Just thought if the used baler went for alot less than a new one I would try it.

I have a NH 568 which is about the same as the BR 750. Mine makes a 4x6 bale. If you are selling hay and hauling it the four foot wide bales loads much better on a trailer. Two side by side is eight feet so it does not hang over. We also had a 535 and you are right people want to pay the same per bale even though the 5x6 has 25% more hay. The NH bales dry stuff much better than the JD. The JD excels with a higher moisture content hay. I baled a lot of wheat straw and millet after we combine it and the NH bales much better than the JD when the straw is ground up after being run through the combine. Net wrap is the way to go if you are buying new.

X2 on that, we have a Gehl that makes 4X5's that we got at a steal, and its $40 a bale for basically just grass with a little alphalfa, we live in clay so our alphalfa doesnt do so good, horse people love it, 500# bales we cant keep up with the demand, we actually screwed up and sold to much and had to buy some more hay for our own cattle to make the winter...

I bought the NH BR750. About $8,000 cheaper than a new one. It can use reg. net and over the edge. What does everybody use or recomend? Does it matter if it is butted end to end with over the edge? All I have ever used is twine.

I have a 567 John Deere that I've been very happy with. I did a lot of reseach before I bought mine-looked at New Holland, Vermeer, International and a couple of others but settled on the John Deere because, to me at least, it seemed better engineered, had a lot less moving parts, and looked much simpler to work on. Don't know what your needs are, but you can't go wrong with the 568. You may have a special reason for wanting to go with a smaller baler, but can always make smaller bales with the bigger baler if you need to....

I have baled about 360 bales so far with the NH and it makes nice bales. I had a little trouble at first with a bearing and shaft on bale #17 (thats what buing used gets you sometimes). The last 350 or so has gone good. I have about 250 more to go if it will quit raining long enough. I have been using NH white net 48" and it covers over the edge about an inch. I was going to try the 51" but this works so good I am sticking with it.
