: Alcoa Rims finally on the truck - SRW.
McRat 02-12-2005, 08:11 PM Finally mounted the Alcoa 16x7 forged alum rims on my 3500SRW. They have a 4000lb weight rating unlike many cast alum rims. I put Durango A/T 285/75's on it with no suspension changes:

McRat 02-12-2005, 08:20 PM It looked ALOT different when I had 4 Hoosier slicks on the rims. Didn't go any faster though. :(
TheBac 02-12-2005, 08:43 PM Pat...didn't realize it was a LB, yeah I don't pay close attn to sigs....that 13.95 was a pretty darn good run!
Truck looks very good!!! :ro)

Wasn't nice of him to make the truck look better before he gives it me :thankyou2

Thanks!
Actually the truck ran 13.63@100 calculated (slip said 13.1@103 with DA correction from the timing computer), but quickest "clean" slip is 13.95.
TheBac 02-12-2005, 09:22 PM I'd be a happy camper with a 13.XX!
SteveNorCal 02-12-2005, 09:38 PM Very nice looking Pat........:cool2:
Road Boss 02-13-2005, 03:26 AM Nice looking truck!
Burner 02-13-2005, 03:38 AM :cool2: Nice tag.
McRat 02-13-2005, 01:25 PM :cool2: Nice tag.
I'm still waiting to get busted for it. It's not my legal plate, but it looks like one.
Where did you get your wheels? I'd like to use that aftermarket center cap for my stock PYO wheels (instead of the plastic factory cover)
McRat 02-13-2005, 01:33 PM I got them at www.southwestwheel.com . They were the only place I found that could get them.
SaguaroKid 02-13-2005, 02:01 PM Dam, now I want some.......
Did ya check em for perp. and runout...:)
dieselman 02-13-2005, 02:17 PM Where did you get your wheels? I'd like to use that aftermarket center cap for my stock PYO wheels (instead of the plastic factory cover)
Hey McRat, will the center caps fit on the PYO wheel? I'm also looking for something to replace the factory plastic cap and have fewer lug nuts to remove.
McRat 02-13-2005, 02:32 PM I'll measure one cap tomorrow.
I didn't measure runout, I did "field testing" up to 120 MPH. They passed. ;)
8shot 02-13-2005, 05:17 PM mcrat, wheels and tires look great , any rub ? would like to put 285s on mine, but dont want to mess with t-bars
McRat 02-13-2005, 05:45 PM With my 2004.5 GMC 3500SRW, no rub. The driver's side wheelwell liner in the front is very close, and should be tied back probably.
8shot 02-13-2005, 06:00 PM mine is a 2004.5 2500 hd, any differance in front suspension?
McRat 02-13-2005, 08:01 PM Not sure. I've been told no, but I don't have a 2500 to compare it to.
SaguaroKid 02-13-2005, 08:04 PM I been looking around at some wheels now. Alcoa's are forged, Eagle and Ultra are pressure cast. I would think forged would be better. Any feed back?

Well you might tomorrow we I have my way :muahaha:

I believe the OEM alum are forged too. Forged is normal significantly stronger than any form of casting. I did a bit of research on weight rating on rims before I went with the Alcoas. I could not find a cast rim that was as strong as the OEM rims, and the Alcoas are even stronger. The rims themselves say 4000lb, but the advertising copy say 3750lb. Still plently for the heaviest load my tires can take.
bartman 02-13-2005, 08:49 PM Forging aligns the crystaline structure of aluminum by "compacting" it under incredible pressure, so there are no voids like a cast wheel of any sort has. It is the strongest type of wheel you can buy. Alcoas have a great history...just look how many over-the-road trucks and diesel pusher motor homes have them. The only draw back to them is that they are not clear anodized, so to keep that "new" shine, you must polish and polish and then apply a sealant every so often. I just cleaned mine today and boy do they shine  ... McRat, SW Wheel where you got them has the Alcoa approved cleaning, polishing and sealing products as a whole kit incase you missed that. Centerline and Weld are also forged, and they are clear anodized for easier maintenance.
Burner 02-13-2005, 10:10 PM Thought someone said something about the 3500 and the 2500 having a weee bit different frame? I think there was a post somewhere in a bumper topic.....
Bill Gisse 02-14-2005, 11:57 AM Nice wheels. Do you have a part no. for them and did you order them on n the internet. Thanks.

I could only find them on the internet. None of my local dealers could get them. There are other designs, but these have the highest weight rating:

P40murf 02-16-2005, 08:00 PM Great looking wheels. What's the model # and price, please?
dieselman 02-18-2005, 05:38 AM I'll measure one cap tomorrow.
I didn't measure runout, I did "field testing" up to 120 MPH. They passed. ;) Did you ever get a chance to see if they fit? If so, do you have a part number to order the caps? Thanks
McRat 02-18-2005, 06:25 PM Caps are 5.125" OD. Go to www.southwestwheel.com .
The part number and price on the rims is:
167041 - Classic 8 (16x7) 8-bolt Single Wheel $151.95
dpower 02-18-2005, 07:00 PM Wow Pat....those wheels are really sharp!!
