Several times in the last three weeks I have noticed a rough idle/hunting condition while waiting for the light to change or backing in my driveway. There was a little white smoke each time. The first time the engine wasn't up to temp. I took it out and warmed it up. It idled fine when I got home. It did it again today. It is wet snowing here and the hunidity is at 85% which is very high for us. I have been runnig the Juice on #2 for about 1K now to see if it would help fuel mileage. I put it back to #4. It idles fine. I guess the question is: what would cause this intermitten problem? Later! Frank
Both fuel filters under 4K.
Bought last tank at a different station.
Have used Power Service on all fill ups this winter.

Hey Frank, the kid across the street has an '01 that started doing that. Cant see the rpm variation on the Tach, but you can sure hear it. He works at the GM dealer and the service guy said "normal". BS! Sounds like you need to have the GM buddies hook up the Tech-2 and read all the injector values to me. Maybe a call to Ogden and chat with the Edge guys and see if its something they heard of.

Thanks Mitch. I am going to drive it a couple days to see what it does when we dry out a little more here. There was a lot of water in the bottom of my intake filter. I can't see my tach move much either. It blows a little white smoke that that really stinks. Later! Frank

Idle fluctuation is usually caused by a failing fuel pressure regulator, located on the back of the injection pump.

Missed your call, Frank. Damn. Get a hold of Aaron at Edge and let him know that your 4.61 looks to be the culprit! Edge replaced mine last year when I had the "misting rain, intermittent wiper, pilot injection off" issue on the way to Texas. Mine was a 4.61 at the time also. Not sure but I think it was a humidity issue and close internal contacts, or open traces on the PCB.

I have not had a problem all day with the Juice out on the bench. It is suppose to be nasty again tomorrow. I will put the Juice back in. If the problem comes back I will drive down to Ogden and see what the Edge guys can do for me. Later! Frank

Just how are you fellas able to assess '.....a little white smoke .....' ? I've oem mirrors and things look even smaller back that far. Do you have the missus to run along side? Back it into the wind so it blows passed the window? I tried watching real close on rapid accelleration once and amost ran off the road ~

My truck only smokes at a stop in gear and just off idle. And it is more than a little smoke. I always back in my three car garage. It would fill the whole thing with smoke before I shut it down. Very strong smell and hard on the lungs. I have no problem seeing the black smoke when running the Juice on 4. Later! Frank

Now I know ~ the missus put up some cardboard on the garage wall where the exhaust tip is to prevent the exhaust from blackening the wall finish.

ShumDit, do you really have a Dmax or a garage? My truck does not blow black smoke normally. My missus runs the house and the garage/shop is all mine. Works very well as long as I give her a little storage space. ):h Back to the topic. The weather is sunny and cool. I drove the truck around town until it warmed up. It ran just fine. I let it cool down, installed the Juice and drove around again until warm. It never shipped a beat. The Edge guys are only 40 miles away in Ogden. I am down there a couple times a week. I plan to visit with them the next trip. Later! Frank
