Hello all,
Looking to do the job in the near future, and want a trouble free job. Anybody have some tips for removal and installation? I have white and am going to the black flares. Thanks for the info. :thumb:

The top of the flare is held on with double stick foam tape. Be prepaired for a bit of a fight to get it off. There are tricks to working with the double stick foam on installation too. Just peal a little of the protective plastic back on the tape so it leaves a tab you can get a hold of when the flare is in place. Install the flare complete with the plastic plugs, then, while holding the flare in place, grab the tab you left and pull the protector off.

Will heating up the flares help in removal or will the tape come off easier when cold?
To anyone interested in my white flares, it depends on how much I like the black ones. Only time will tell on that. Thanks for the help, this site rocks.

Yes, remove the plastic retainers and pull like hell. Something I have found very helpful at removing the leftover tape is called an "eraser-wheel". You can find one at any automotive paint/bodyshop supply shop. It is a rubber wheel that you can chuck up in a drill that rips the tape and goo off without harming the paint. By the way, you might be the worlds first person that is switching their beautiful white flares for "strippy-the-wonder-silverado" black flares.

Better to do it now than later, the 3M tape was very hard and severely bonded to the paint on my '01. The factory flares had also rubbed through the paint in a couple areas. Wish I would have done it when the truck was new.

There is at least one more person!
I want the black flares to. I am thinking it might be easier and cheaper to just paint the white ones

The white flares show the dirt to much, Mr. road grime will hide it better on the black ones. But I am not 100% sure they will stay, I am going to do half the truck and see what side I like the best. I need to take one side off anyways because they rubbed the paint away, another GM brain-fart design.

I agree with max payne, my last truck was white with black flares, this one is white with white flares, I like it a lot better! Don't worry about crud on the flares, just do like I do and get the entire truck muddy...

Not to hijack this thread but if the flares rub through the paint, would getting it fixed be covered under the the 3/36k mile warranty????
