I have a 2002 2500HD with a 6-speed manual transmission that is driven by my business partner that I had to replace the clutch this week at about 62,000 miles on it.
They had to replace the flywheel, pressure plate and throwout bearing. Total bill over $1600.
I know that the clutch itself is a wear item, but shouldn't the other parts be covered by the extended warranty we bought???

Are you sure that the clutch was bad and not a flywheel problem. Havn't heard of too many replacing worn out clutches. The flywheel is under the 100,000 miles warranty as they call it part of the motor. Don't know what reason they could give for it not being under warranty.

A lot of times the dealer try to pass off breakdowns as abuse. Probably so they can pocket some $. Saw it happen with the clutch on a 95 GMC we had a while back.

You were DEFINATELY charged for a warranty item. I just had my flywheel done and it is covered under the 100K motor warranty, says so right in the diesel manual warranty section. I just had to pay a $100 deductible that kicks in after 36K. I think they mis diagnosed a flywheel problem for clutch and decided to make you eat the whole thing.

Would you believe that I had mine replaced last Monday and today I was in talking to the service dept. I don't have 200 miles on mine and it is already starting to make a noise:mad: .They said at the time the clutch assy looked as new.

I have an 04 lly and my flywheel started making noise at about 8000 miles chevy mechanics could not find anything wrong with it so i just drove it. At 16k miles I took it back in and they could hear it when I was pulling into the dealership. They replaced the flywheel assembly but they said the clutch looked fine so they didnt replace the clutch. I just hit 25000 miles last night and my truck is in the shop this morning because i barely have a clutch. anytime i speed up, with the pedal to the floorboard the clutch slips. without the edge+*** in my truck. waiting to see what they say. the only way they are gonna fixit is if they cover it under warrenty. if not i'll put a aftermarket one in it.

I lost the clutch in my 02 at 60,000 miles about a month ago. Put a new heavy duty one in and like it a lot so far. Predator doesn't give me a hard clutch anymore! My clutch was on the way out before the predator though, the programmer just motivated it a little quicker):h :grd:
It's nice to know that the flywheel is under the 100,000 mile warranty though. I've had mine worked on once already, at about 40,000 last summer.
