Apparently not ;). A guy down the road from us has one on his 8100 but that's all I know about it.

Hey, I don't personally have one on a tractor but I work as a service tech for Deere and I know there are a lot of people using them. I don't know how many for sure, but there are a lot of people turning them up on the 00 and 10s with a resistor in the fuel temp circuit. I don't know if you can do this on the 20s and I'm almost sure you can't on the 30s. I do know that TS Performance makes one a box for the 20s and I think they have one for the 30s now as well.

A friend of mine put a tuner on his 8310 and he said it has more power and gets better fuel economy then his 8420. They pull a big JD 1900 air seeder with it and they say it even runs coooler now. I'm not sure the make of the tuner but it just plugged in the wiring harness by the injector pump. I also have a friend that put one on his 7810 a few years ago and he has had no complaints.

We ran one on a 9650 sts for 4 years with no problems. That is an 8.1L just like the 8X00 - 8X20 series. I know the controller we had had two settings. 15% over and 30% over. We always ran it on 15% so we didn't tear up belts on the combine. Also our controller would have worked on early 8X20 tractors but not the later ones. Something in the programming I guess.

We used a bullydog on our 9660STS it also works on many other deere models. We have never put one on a tractor but it worked well on the combine.

Ive seen these advertised, do they just dump more fuel in? I would think if that was the case your engine temp would go up. There is a farmer near me with 3 JD combines and they chug the black smoke when they take off, I wonder if they have them.

Combines typically do smoke when they take off due to the fact that when you engage the seperator and platform that a big load on the engine all at once and it will lug the motor for a second until they get spinning. Whether they smoke more if they do have a box in them I couldn't tell you. The way the throttle is on a combine also has a lot to do with the smoke in the fact that they only have three engine speeds so when you bump it up a speed it dumps the fuel faster than the engine can use it for a second and the result is smoke until the engine and turbo catch up.

The bullydog was the only one I seen advertised and I was wondering if there were others, or prefered units.
Thanks for the replys.

We've got one on our 8410 and one on our MT 765 cat. The 8410 smokes but it pulls good. It's only turned up 20%. It's one that goes in the plug for the fuel pump. Looks like a little hockey puck with wires! The one on the cat I can't remember what it is but it's at 30%. They both run good. The 10 runs rea good and it's our other "big" tractor behind the 9400 and 9420t's. We just need a chip for the big tracks!

Well, we got a 8430 last year and now no one wants to be stuck using the 8300, so I was thinking a little power boost might help......

I know they are now out of business but didn't VanAaken make some tuners for tractors. I think i remember seeing them advertised in a product brochure.

My summertime employer's 8320 w/ ILS has a chip, and it pulls like crazy, almost outdoes his brother-in-law's 8520, it rolls the smoke, and heats up, but the 20 series cooling isn't that great anyway.

Will it overheat easy?

The overheating part I can't comment on. I don't have any experience with that. I do know that we have had one turned up hot enough that he smoked the tranny, which I do believe is one of the few that we've had that was completely trashed. Of course, I think that was in 00 or a 10 series and I don't think there was a box involved. I think that one was "custom" and obviously way too hot. There's usually a reason that the engines in these tractors are rated at what they are. It's not because the engine can't make more power. It's because everything south of it can't handle the extra torque. It's just like our trucks. A little can be had for a long while but a lot is gonna break something sooner than later.

We run the Bully Dog unit on our 8300. It has a three position toggle switch for 10%, 20%, or 30% over stock. We run it on 30% all the time and boy can you tell a difference in our hills. We pull the 8300 pretty hard hooked to our 12 row stripcat fertilizer applicator. With (2) 500 gallong saddle tanks, we can really cover some ground. The 8220 get the easy life pulling the 12 row planter.

I work for a custom tiller and we put one on a 8200 deere with tracks and that thing pulled a 10 bottom kverland plow and a 9 or 11 shank chisel plow pretty well depending on what type of soil u were in. i cant remember the brand of chip it was but it added 15-30% more power

We have a shclagel 30% for dad's 8100. Since it's on all the time we take it out when we aren't pulling hard. Works ok but removing it gets tiresome. On my 8100 I have the bullydog 3 position. It's nice since I can run 30% to pull hard, or 20 for less hard, and 10 when using the loader, spraying, shit like that. Combined probably 4000 hours chipped on them, no problems. Uses less fuel turned up per acre since it doesn't lug as much and can run a gear or 2 more depending what we're doing. They don't run any hotter than before on water temp. Both idle higher, 1100 or so, when turned up because it's just a resister mod so it gets some extra fuel all the time. That's another reason the switchable bullydog is nice, turning it down to 10 makes it idle closer to stock. I like the bullydog a lot because of the switch.
I think TS performance makes a good one for the 20 series. Bullydog also has one for them.
