Has anybody done this?

I want to stop addding the hot air from the motor, block off the factory box, and add a hose (tube) to outside air to force outside air into the airbox. If I am correct, this is how the new boxes from Chevy are, so would it make sence to try and copy this approach with the old boxes?

I've actually been thinking about trying that as well, but I'm not sure if it will work in actuality as well as it does in my fantasy land.

Banks and Volant both make aftermarket CAC's that scoop air via a tube routed under the front bumper. I have the Volant, but the Banks looks like it might actually flow better.

I used TXc's CAI kit and also cut a 4" hole in the bottom of the stock airbox and connected a flex metal 4" hose down to the backside of the bumper.
Seems to work great!

bigdaddy650r is speaking my language now. So you did both!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats probably going to give you the most air into the box I guess. It just costs more to now by the fender kit. I was going to just duck tape and cardboard the side shut. I know it sounds f'ed up, but it free. I had ruled out the dryer vent because they are so floppy and would be hard to mount to anything. If you used PVC or flex metal, you could screw a little bar to it to mount some how.
Any pics bigdaddy????

So I did the mod we were talking about and it works GREAT!!!!!!! Lowered my temp gauge on the dash when the outside temp is lower than 50. I can go down the freeway at 70 mph and not go over 180 degrees, so it must of helped. I ran the 3" flex (used for bathroom blowers) that I got from Home Depot for $8 into the bottom of the airbox, out have it stuck in the slot under the front bumper where the tow hook is. Air is forced into the airbox.
