: Low oil pressure ?? or normal ??
madmaxdmax 04-29-2008, 11:13 PM At regular idle my truck registers 40 psi and when accel. it reads up to 58 psi. While cruising at a constant speed it reads about 45. Does this seem correct or may I have a prob? What reading should I be expecting if out of the norm??
brownd 04-30-2008, 12:14 AM Fill out sig. And type of oil, engine temp. ???

Rotella conventional, engine temp at oil pressure reading was 200 degrees F.
redneckdirtymax 04-30-2008, 08:47 PM I am running Rottella T and am running about the same temp and oil press. I have seen mine hold as low as 30 psi at idle.
sikk50 04-30-2008, 08:47 PM Wow. Mine is usualy around 65-70psi on warm engine/tranny

I'm no expert, but from the zillions of post's here re: oil pressure in the past..I think your o.k...some have oil pressure of 20- at idle, seems different LB7's have different pressures.
Do a search in this forum re: oil pressure, you might find more info..:D
scramHD 04-30-2008, 09:58 PM Mine at 75 until warm. 78 on freeway. 25 after driving stop and go all day at idle.
nmband13 04-30-2008, 10:09 PM 75ish on a cold start, 60* warm engine, and 40 at idle, normal
madmaxdmax 04-30-2008, 10:21 PM Thanks everyone.
Dmaxtodd 04-30-2008, 10:56 PM Mine used to be about 28-30 psi at idle...that is until I pulled about 15,000 lbs 75 miles on diesel fuel mixed with oil when the injectors failed, it is about 20 psi now at hot idle. You think it's broken in yet? Ha Ha...

I just lost an injector on a trip to Houston this past Thursday. Happened to look down and notice no oil pressure so I pulled over and killed it. Dealer replaced all 8 injectors and now my oil pressure is about 12-12lbs less at 2100rpm. Use to be 60psi constant and now around 45. Although, it will go up if I rev it to about 2400-2600.
sparky1562 05-05-2008, 01:05 PM Griswald, did you change the oil afterwards? You might still have some fuel in the oil.

They changed at the dealer. At least it was listed on the paperwork.
gasuout 05-05-2008, 01:30 PM I guess the oil psi that counts is hot at idle . I have had three motor in truck and all are around 20 psi or just above when fully hot at idle . Normal to me .
This is with oil that has a few miles on it . Even when Ive had oil that is fuelled up some it still idled at 20 psi hot . When fresh changed it idles hot just a little higher for a day .
Of coarse when you start it and the oil is cold it is always going to be high . I think I generally run around 45-50 when hot at cruise .
hope this helps ,
Johnny
Dmaxtodd 05-05-2008, 10:40 PM Griswald,
What psi does yours idle at?? Mine was definatly higher psi before the injectors failing and running on fuel..however it seems to be holding steady at 20 psi idle now at 158,000 miles so I guess whatever engine wear that happened has stabilized. My new method... run it till it stops!!
Griswald 05-06-2008, 11:05 AM Idles around 18-20 when warmed up.
I seem to recall that with the 03 model year, the oil pressure relief valve was re-set to produce lower oil pressures than the 01-02 engines.
With my 03 and 5w-40 oil, I run about 25 psi at warm idle, about 45-50 at about 1800 rpm warm, and 60 when revved up to about 2500. When cold, 1700 rpm produces around 80-90 psi.

Thats good info. At warm engine and at idle psi is just under 30 psi, will rev up to 60 at speed.
