Just as it says...went to Detroit and back. Had to run some things up there. Weather held up pretty well, one rain storm on the way there. Ran empty, no trailer. Filled up at speedways only, straight #2...no additives.

Trip out - 14.87 Gallons and 315 miles on the tank = 21.2MPG
I was on the highway most of the time (Between 70-75MPH) and cruise control, maybe 40 miles in the city. $4.07/gal (Gary, IN)

Trip back - 17.74 Gallons and 302 miles on the tank = 17.0MPG
I was laying the coal on the way home, somewhere between 80 and 90MPH, FLYING down I-94. Sunroof open. $4.21/gal (Michigan City, IN)

23,000 rolled on the odometer as I pulled in the driveway at home. :)

Just thought somebody would like another real MPG thread. :D

~Tom.

Wow, thats some good mpg's tom.

I don't know WTF happened to my mileage. I was gettin' friggin' 20 in the winter, and now I'm lucky to crack 18. I'm at 8600 miles now and it's getting worse.

I am bummed...

Well! I was impressed with mine until I saw yours,Tom. LOL! 1100 miles on truck with quad 2 and dpf delete getting 19.3 MPG (Hwy). Shout out to Nate at DSTRBD! Thanks!

Hahaha, I'm not complaining by any means!

Chromer...funny thing you said that - my in town mileage has gone to hell lately. In fact, it started at 10,000 miles. If I run around in the city for a few days, I'm lucky to crack 16, before it was well over 17. Hmm. I may also have lost .5mpg on the highway since I've gotten it. I wonder what the hell is going on. Did they switch back to summer fuel yet? I thought my mileage should have gotten better. :(

I can't complain with the numbers I'm getting, but it seems I've lost something somewhere. I also still have a DPF (semi-functional , but it's still there) and full factory exhaust. The 90 and the 110 tunes make my truck angry on the highway (too much smoke) and yield 3mpg lower (I know, doesn't make any sense). My best mileage comes out of the 50hp tune, so that's where she's staying. Maybe one of these days I'll pull all the exhaust off and see what my mileage does. I'm almost afraid to do it, my mileage seems to be pretty good now.

Hey, do you keep your tonneau on all the time? Or, more to the point, when you got the 21 mpg, was the tonneau on?

I was just thinking about this, and I think my mileage dropped a lot when I put my ladder rack and ladders on. I know with my old 4.8 gasser, tha ladder cost me 3+ mpg's, but I didn't think it would hurt me this much with the DMax.

I drove out to KCM last week, still there, and with the ladders, on +90 and with a real gentle tailwind, I got almost 19. When I got here, I dialed down to +50, and that's how I'll drive home, but with the ladders and rack, the wind is a real wild card...

Yep, tonneau cover has been on since Christmas :D. It's a lund tri-fold. I got it because it only takes me 2 minutes to fold it up and take it off. Folded up, it easily fits in the bed with whatever shit was too big to fit under it in the first place. :) I don't really know if it helped my mileage any. Going into winter, putting the cover on, experimenting with fuels and additives - god only knows what actually changed! I still want to hear your truck with that exhaust! Still on the fence.

I'm sure that tonneau is BIG MPG help...

Yeah, we'll have to hook up and have a beer. I'll sell you on the wonders of the open exhaust.

Have no fear!!

Hahaha, alright. Let me know when you get down this way. I'm headed out to Indy tomorrow, we'll see what kind of mileage I get this time. :D

Havent' you guys seen mythbusters??lol they did a test on the show one day with tail gate up and one truck with it down, the tailgate up truck I believe had better mileage then the truck with it down.

I've always had a cover on my trucks and am in process of picking up an 08 cc/da combo on a week or two. debating on putting a cover on it. crossing my fingers that my truck mileage is as good as my 05 lly which I've had very good mileage outta. dont' know if the 22's are going to help any though.lol

I always get better mileage with the gate down, I've proven it over several tanks now.

I bet that tonneau really helps -- I want that and the synth fluids next.

Congrats on great mileage... try 4 mile drives in the city with about 14 stops, you'll be around 11mpg.

Good trip story mpg #'s great. The tail gate story always makes me laugh,I was on I-40 returning from a Cali visit and a couple of trucks went screaming by me with the tail gates down, they must of been doing 100mpg or damn close.
I'm thinking to myself I wonder if it really helps once you hit 90+ lmao!Don't get me wrong I like to save $$ where I can but sometimes if you apply one saving technique you got to stack it up against all the wasteful applications(big tires, lift kits, driving 90+,or city driving mashing pedal to floor to get to the next signal)drives me crazy I tell ya!Sorry to ramble guys lol.

Mine is about 19.5mpg and stock and the moment. Reset dic before leaving on 300mile trip to sisters running up I-65 down through 90 tollway to the northwest suburbs. Hand calculation comes to the same. Mostly 70-75mph and 60minutes of mostly 10mph stop and go downtown traffic. See how trip back goes. Next is 4" or 5" MBRP exhaust turbo back and some EFI-Live tuning. Can't decide to go 4" or 5". I am not a large throaty sound guy. If it idles quietly and can do normal accelration fairly quiet then 5" would be nice. Then will do some more comparison.

I ran mine this week and hand calculated 18.9 MPG with the cruise set at 75 MPH.

There was a tad bit of in town driving with that, so the results are naturally a little skewed as far as a true MPG average (interstate). I've got around 18K on my truck.

I'm not sure what kind of nasty winter diesel I was using this winter but it made my mileage horrible.

They must be getting summer diesel now because I am starting to see much better mileage. The last few days I have been traveling back and forth to a town about 20 miles away. i know its not far but after a couple trips I am still averaging between 18-21 mpg.

When I start pokin around town all day, it goes to hell. These things were certainly made to get miles on the highway, not town. I know thats obvious but I am happy to see mileage getting better.

I got about 11k on the odometer. The more mileage, the more I love this truck. Its perfect. I dont even mind the front end anymore. Crank your t bars and these trucks look 10X better.

cheers

I know what you mean I was around 15mpg this winter with this winter diesel crap. Back to the 19s i was around 18s last year when new. It would be nice to find something to add to winter fuel to help out mileage. But the cost would probably be a wash.

Why is the winter blend so terrible for mpg?

Why is the winter blend so terrible for mpg?

Winter blend is just #2 blended with #1. The #1 (or kero) has less BTU per gallon of fuel, hence the poorer MPG.

Alright, I was able to take an all interstate trip today. I did have a few stop lights in a couple of small Oklahoma towns (driving North on 69/75) that I had to go through, but that shouldn't have effected the average that much.

Anyway, hand calculated 20.4 with the cruise set at 75 MPH. 147.1 miles on the trip meter from last fill up and put 7.2 gallons in all the way to the top of the filler neck.
