: Question about installing a front pipe on an LBZ
bluetick523 04-29-2008, 08:48 PM Well, I finally bought the front pipe to add to my MBRP system. I put it in this evening.....but I have a question. The front pipe is touching the cross-member......barely. It does not rattle, but I didn't figure this was right. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?
Thanks!
AlligatorPerformance 04-29-2008, 09:00 PM Put a socket underneath the front pipe at the crossmember, loosen the v-band and the connection at the end of the front pipe, re-tighten and there should be about a 1/2" between the crossmember and the pipe.
bluetick523 04-29-2008, 09:41 PM V-band......you're referring to the band on the other end of the pipe (turbo end), right?
JMAASKE 04-29-2008, 09:51 PM Mine was very similar. I loosened clamps at both ends and used a wedge under the pipe and the re-torqued the clamps and removed the wedge and it is fine.
bluetick523 04-29-2008, 10:12 PM Thanks for the tips guys. I can see how that would work. I wish I would have thought of that earlier today! :( LOL!
I'll give it a try tomorrow.
Let me know if or how much drone you have now with the kitty gone...
MBRP Tech 04-30-2008, 03:27 PM bluetick523,
AlligatorPerformance and JMAASKE are absolutely correct, you should have a at least a 1/2 " or better in between the crossmember and the front pipe. Typically if someone holds it when you tighen it up you'll have no problem, but if you are installing by yourself like most people do, a piece of wood, socket, or just about anything that give you the clearance as you tighten it up will work.
Also, check to make sure that the front pipe hanger is in the top hole of the factory rubber, if not that will bring it too close also.
The "V" band clamp is the one that is at the bottom of the stock downpipe that our front pipe joins to. Let us know how you make out.
JMAASKE 04-30-2008, 03:35 PM I have very little drone with the 4" turbo back set up. It was a huge fear of mine before I installed it and went with MBRP because of the good feedback.

bluetick523 04-30-2008, 11:11 PM Thanks to everyone for the tips. I hope to get to it tomorrow eve. I was going to adjust it this evening, but I chose to run my beagle pups instead! :)

jawaring 09-06-2008, 11:49 AM A little off-topic here, but do you have to remove that cross member to get the old pipe out in one piece or put the new one in? I think its about time for me to lose the kitty! Thanks in advance-
Cat Cracker 09-07-2008, 12:53 AM jawaring, No, you don't have to remove the crossmember if you don't want to. I removed the bracket on that side and was able to squeeze the kitty out the front. It's tight, but it will go.

X2, this is how its done.
WVHunter 09-09-2008, 06:40 PM I jacked up the front passenger side and put jack stands under it, after you take off the v-clamp turn the pipe 180 and slide it out the front.

If you still are having problems getting it out like i did, just beat it out with a hammer:D
1badsilverado 09-09-2008, 10:04 PM I got 2 of em out tis weekend. Mine and my father in laws. Just take the bracket of the trans and i used a small pry bar and it came out fairly easy. Its just a tight fit between trans pan and frame of the truck. But it does come out.
