I just bought a 2003 GMC 2500HD and it has no Cat, only a rather large muffler. I thought all CA duramax engines had Cats on them after 02.
I do not think the PO took it off, so what is up?

Nope, it was first sold in CA. I bought it from original owner/family.

Ours did not come with a cat. But it was assembled in Flint Michigan. Or so the tag on the door says.:D

Check to see if it has EGR .. if not then it's not a CA emissions version

I have an 04 with no kitty. It sounds like for some reason your truck is not a California version. It could have been sent to Cali by mistake or got mislabeled as a Cali version. Be happy....not having a cat is a good thing.

No I do not have to go through a E check, just registered today. I took off the Cat on my last truck. Actually would have bought a Duramax sooner if I knew it did not have a Cat. Those things are a joke on a diesel.
It does have an EGR though. can't figure that one out unless PO took off the CAT.
I am glad I do not have to bother to take it off:)

Did a vin check and it came with a kitty. Guess it just fell off or something:)
No worries here. Now, how about the EGR? Sure do not need that, blocker plate seems appropiate but do not want to throw codes.
