: Ceramic Coating Exhaust
linetramp 04-29-2008, 01:56 PM Has anybody done this on the manifolds or anything. They do this on small airplanes and hot rods to controll the heat, and I have done it on my 283 small block and my Polaris bike exhaust. On the bike, it made a huge difference in temperature. I havent drove the Land Cruiser yet to see if that is better.
My first ideal was to do the intercooler tubes to keep them cool to aid in keeping the air cooler, but then figured that wrapping the tubes is probably better.
volumejunkie 04-29-2008, 08:48 PM I've seen guys coating their manifold and up-pipes but never read any results. I've been thinking about wrapping my intercooler lines also, but I would think its only realy needed to wrap the line coming FROM the intercooler since its already cooled, wrapping the one going into the intercooler seems as though it would hold in the heat.

I have ceramic pipe and silencer on my snowmobile and it made a big difference in temperature. A couple of guys I know also ceramic coated their headers on their mud trucks that are running 700-900 hp and as soon as they turn the engine off you can go up to the header and touch it and not get burnt. I would do it to mine but they are so dang hard to get off, esspescialy they driver's side. I don't know if you can ceramic aluminum can you?
linetramp 04-30-2008, 01:23 PM Im not sure if there is a limitation on the material. I would asume if they can do stainless and cast, that aluminum wouldn't be a problem.
On my four wheeler, I was burning holes in my pants and after the coating, I don't. I have seen some real bad work come out of Medford Oregon, so I sent my stuff down to Texas. The same place Jay Lenno gets all of his work done. He has all his motors ceramic coated.
I figured with all the heat problems, this would be a topic already talked about, but I can't find anything on this.
110crash 04-30-2008, 05:47 PM I have seen pics on here , in someones garage or something , that they had a BD exaust manifold and the other manifold ceramic coated but U can't remember where. I know it was on this site though.
linetramp 05-01-2008, 12:27 PM Well, I have spent some time now looking at the BD manifolds and I can't really find anyone on this site that can say it was an improvement over the stock. I know that on a flow bentch, but once it's on the truck, there is no power or temp difference that anyone is reporting, so I think ill stick with the stock. I am 100% going to do the downpipe on the new exhaust (once I pick one I like) to keep that cooler.

Can you send me a pm with the contact information for the ceramic coating company in TX? Did you get your downpipe coated? How did it turn out? Any pics?
