: What Should I DO ????????
GMC-2002-Dmax 02-11-2005, 08:51 AM I factory ordered a 2005 Beetle for my wife before Labor Day 2004, I have been waiting for some 5+ months for the car to arrive at the dealer.
I ordered a very specific color/interior/options combination that will not be easily duplicated.......or found on the lot ..........
The car was to be built with a safety feature called ESP - Electronic Stabilization Program.......it was developed by Bosch for Mercedes and it's on a lot of European Cars........it has been reported to greatly enhance the stability of the car when it starts to skid due to wet/snowy roads or due to an evasive/defensive driving reaction, like avoiding an obstacle in the road or some other panic type manuever.
It can't be added at the dealer........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif
It was inexpensive at $280.00........
I can't get an answer as to why it is not on the car ?????? Even though I ordered it with it............
I really do not want to wait for another 5 months to get one with ESP, and do not want the car without it.................I might as well say forget it............

Thttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif NYIIRC if it is a DIESEL the ESP is not available.
mannytranny 02-11-2005, 10:49 AM Nope. It is avaliable on the diesel.
I dont know what to tell you, Tony. There are many TDI owners that live up there in the snow belt, and get by just fine without it. I dont even know how much it would really help.
Go to the TDIclub!!!!!!!!! I do know that several members have put ESP in on older cars that didnt have it from the factory even as an option.
If I were you, Ide go back in and use that as a bargaining chip for a good deal on the car.
Did you order the car in pink or something? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/hihi.gif
Got Juice? 02-11-2005, 11:23 AM Thanks manny.
My Last VW was a Factory 1 of 1000
Passat G-60 Syncro.
DTM Mods to everything except the 6 speed
Golf Rallye Intercooler.
Way Fast once over 40 mph.
It had EDL

Tony,
I'm with Mannytranny. See what you can get back from the dealer$hip to make up for the dropped ball. VW of America is not exactly known for its flexible thinking:cool: . Should be enough for winter tires on separate wheels or maybe even a session at Skip Barber Racing School:ro) . We have a 2002 Golf TDI that handles snow and ice great with Hakkapelita Q winter tires. I'd take good tires over ESP... TDIclub is where it's at for VW knowledge. Great crew there.

You asked......I have had a 1997 VR6 Passat wagon for 8 years............best car I have ever owned......:D
My wife switched jobs and has a 100 mile a day commute from now until ???????? whenever..........
The Tahoe is costing me well over $100 week in fuel.....:( .......she is the only one driving it.........500-600 miles a week.....it is gonna kill the value of it and then I'll never get a decent trade in value on it.........especially adding 25-30K miles a year.......
I am not going to put her back in our 1997 Passat again in another month and have the Tahoe sit in the driveway.............so it is going.........:exactly:
The Beetle appears to have been built with EDL and ASR, but not the full ESP package..........it has VW scratching there heads as to how it even got built........ ...the zone REP is going to see if VW will extend some kind of compensation to me in order fro me to accept the car as is..........I told the salesman I would accept a 7yr/100K VW full warranty or re-order the car.........
I am waiting to see what VW says..........might not know until Tuesday.........

JRKRACE 02-21-2005, 11:58 PM Hey Tony...You were telling me about this car when I picked up the Sno-Foil....How did you do?..
Bronco 02-22-2005, 12:44 AM Tony might sound stupid, but have you thought of a rental car?
Get some rentals with unlimited milage. Sell the Tahoe. Reorder the VW.
GMC-2002-Dmax 02-22-2005, 01:50 AM I sold my Tahoe privately..........it goes this week...........
The VW dealer knocked $1000 off plus $500 loyalty money and I have a 1.9%/4 year loan..........they also threw in VW Monster Mats, VW Mud Flaps, and I am hoping I can get a few smaller items from the parts dept as well for cost, like the rear spoiler..........
I will be getting the new car as soon as my Tahoe goes..........probably next week it looks like.........
Even though I was pissed that it was built without ESP..........I don't think that it was worth waiting another 3-5 months for another one........besides this may be my last winter in CT.........:cool2:
I will post PICS as soon as I get it..........
dieselfumes57 02-22-2005, 10:59 AM what does that thing do that they left off and how does it work ? must be pretty complicated piece of equipment if the stealer cant add it.
mannytranny 02-24-2005, 08:46 PM Its anti skid programming. Sensors all over the place.
When the car goes into a skid, the computer knows it, and applies throttle or brakes to each wheel individually in order to strainghten her out.
On the TDIclub, they swear by it.
Mackin 02-25-2005, 04:57 AM Have it in the Saab aint worth the crap. Common sense is the alternative.
GMC-2002-Dmax 03-05-2005, 11:43 PM I got it.............:cool2:
Pics to follow...........
Waiting for a nice clear day..............;)

mannytranny 03-07-2005, 09:30 PM Cool little car Tony
What stage did you RC to? Clutch slipping yet??? lol
Ive got to tell you, taking the muffler off made maybe 5% more noise, and yielded 1-2 mpg more, faster spoolup, etc. Highly reccomended by yours truly.....cost me <10 bucks........
It is a real good feeling to be able to drive all day and not stop for fuel.............
Ive heard that the PD's can make 275 lb ft pretty damn easy.
GMC-2002-Dmax 03-07-2005, 10:23 PM I have not decided on a chip yet.......lookin around.........I need to keep it within the stock clutch's capacity.........maybe 15~Hp/50~Lbs TQ is all I need......... ):h
First tank yeilded 40-41 mpg.......the wife drove 391 miles on 9.6 gallons...........:cool2: ......
We are both very pleased thus far...........the ZENON headlights and XM were well worth it..........as was the wait.........

1.9TDI 03-07-2005, 11:45 PM Congrats on the Beetle TDI...let us know when you bust 50mpg. It's a good feeling when you can get over 500 miles or more to a tank! The ESP option isn't a big deal, so don't give it another thought. Here's how my ESP works: when in doubt, full throttle!
aketay 03-08-2005, 09:26 AM The ESP is a cool option and it works. Great for scaring the crap outta your friends. My wife just loves her VW TDI's, we're on our third one now. Went to the auto show last weekend and sat in a new Jetta, as soon as one comes in DIESEL we will own it.

If it wasn't for the headlights I could not tell front from back.):h :D
VA has a box and injectors for the TDI.
mannytranny 03-08-2005, 07:34 PM ^ Over priced, and udner powered.
VA has their head up their ass on that one.

VA has their head up their ass on that one.Dude, considering the cost of fuel today is power really a issue? I personally think 40mpg far out weighs anything else. My wife and I are considering the Toyota Prius....will we win and street races? 50mpg....who gives a crAAp.):h
Tony, good luck with the new VW.....we have also talked about getting one, let us know how it works out.

I was talking specifically about the VA box and injectors. Ive got a TDI too, and I know that there are far better bang for the buck mods than the VA setup..........
hannaco 03-23-2005, 10:09 AM With some of the popular chips. If you don't plant the foot all the time, the milage has been known to go up just a wee bit. Now, if you were to go with RC stage III and a G60 clutch, you could have some fun.
NoWake200 03-24-2005, 08:14 PM I was talking specifically about the VA box and injectors. Ive got a TDI too, and I know that there are far better bang for the buck mods than the VA setup..........Gotcha....I was kind of surprised....I always agree with your posts.;) :D
80K10/6.5TD 03-25-2005, 10:38 PM I have an 04 TDI Golf used for a daily driver 70 mi round trip with 23K on the clock and so far it has been perfect, worst mielage has been 43mpg best 49mpg.
Hate the front seat that reclines only by turning this stupid knob, but in comparison to my 02 Honda Civic I would still go with the TDI.
With the 10hp increase on the 04 I have no complaints on power, has gobs of torque at low rpm, don't think it has ever been above 3,000 rpm as it really has no need to rev.
Mine is the 5spd have no clue as to how the auto is,might not be as good.
Has to last 3 more years til I retire then its time for a REAL diesel either a d-max or a cummins, If I can afford the price of fuel. :(

GMC-2002-Dmax 04-02-2005, 11:02 PM Update.............
The car was picked up on Thursday March 3rd with 41 miles on it............it is one month old and the wife has put almost 2200 miles on it..........already
She has put a total of $114.00 of fuel in it.........and the mileage has averaged at the low 36MPG and the best so far was 42mpg.........which I am sure will continue to improve......
She had to vary the rpm and the load to break the motor in for the first 1000 miles.
Now that it has some mileage she is driving it less agressively........
Just thought I would update everyone..........
:D
mannytranny 04-09-2005, 12:21 AM Any mods yet Tony?
I thought you were going to RC it?
