I am not doing any rock crawling, but some of the Forest Service roads I frequent have a very high, rocky berm between the tracks. Does anyone know whether there's a skid plate available to give some protection to the Allison pan?

I've been searching and no luck. There was one post on here a while back where a guy said he was going to start fabricating them, but it looks like that never panned out- no pun intended. The only other post I've seen someone found a complete set, that included one, for $1999. That's not happening either. If anyone has any info, I'm in the same situation, just want some protection for the pan and filter on forest roads.

Exactly my thoughts — and I, too, have searched. Became concerned when a friend told me about a guy he knows who drove his new Ford up the Pipeline Road in Alaska to hunt. Tore a hole in the transmission pan — about $6000 later he was repaired (towed back to Fairbanks and transmission rebuilt). If it comes down to it, I'll fabricate a skid plate for the transmission pan (the engine one is a stock item) — doesn't look too complicated.

Jake — as nearly as I can tell, Light Racing makes only a complete underbody skid plate system for the Silverado at about $1200. I need something less dazzling, and just for the transmission pan.
