: Injectors replace and still smoking HELP!!!

I need some help I had all 8 injectors replaced and the truck is still smoking white on start up and while driving expect at idle after it is warm it does not smoke, the second you brake 1000RPMS it starts smoking white smoke again, and clears up again at WOT.. had to the dealer check and they said the sleeve isn’t leaking.

The coolant system isn’t building pressure after truck is warm, I know it did before the injectors because I checked the coolant and after running half an hour I had enough pressure to spray coolant pretty good at 40 degrees. The truck blows pretty warm air, as warm as I can remember.

So, far I haven’t seen the oil level really change I have noticed a slight usage of coolant… The dealer seems very confident the white smoke is definitely fuel related. I am not sure where to go from here all they say is it is the “aftermarket stuff” I am running the TTS extreme, it isn’t removed but set on the lowest setting. I have driven it about 100 – 200 miles sense the injector job and change the oil twice to get rid of the fuel in the crank.

Talked to Steve Cole and seemed to thing injector sleeve, and suggested removing the glow plugs and cranking the motor. After removing the glow plugs I drained the fuel lines via my FM100, to prevent any possible firing, I cranked the motor over once and had paper towel in front of all the injectors.. The cylinder on the passenger side closest to the firewall is the only one anything at all came out of, looked like about 6-8 drops of coolant the best I could tell. After removing all the glow plugs and inspecting them the one out of the cylinder with residue (passenger side closest to the firewall)seemed to have a crummy/slime build up on it all the other plugs (7) looked to be in like new condition.

So, now I am at the point of smoking white, with no pressure in coolant system, there doesn’t appear to be any sign of crank case pressure, and I can feel at lower RPM acceleration a little bit of a “miss/surge” is what I guess I would call it when engine is still not fully warmed up.

The dealer just looked at the injector sleeve again today and said it wasn’t leaking.. So I am to the point of getting it home, and pulling the valve covers, draining the coolant and putting the sleeve in with new High temp silicone my self And checking the head gasket on the passenger side… any thoughts what my problem may be or am I on the right track with reluctant dealerships around here, that think all my problems are all “aftermarket stuff”? Truck has just under 36,000 miles on it. Anyone have any instructions as far as ft/lbs on the head bolts and pattern of tightening and injectors ect.. I would appreciate the info…

Oh I told the dealer about the coolant not building pressure they haven’t got back to me on it yet…

Thanks,

Jon

Your fixin to void yourn warranty if you put a wrench on the injectors or head. I'd take that add on stuff off the engine and send an email to a GM rep for help. Dos sound like you have a head gasket problem and your ndealer should recognize it after what you've shown him.Good luck.

it would not suprise me if that sleeve came up with the injector r/r ans then was pushed down apon installing new injector. You %100 confident that the glow plug hole had coolant coming out. Bring it over here to huckstorf in Franklin and I will look at it.
we will figure out the labor cost.
I am guessing the seal in the sleeve is bad. I have a set if you need them. Patrick

The dealers around here are dumb a$$e$:
I was able to get my hands on a Tech II, checked as much as possible. Balance rates ranged from -1.2 - .08 in park with brake applied "hissing", and temp was at least 180. except on the number 1 cylinder, the balance rate was 6.2-5.3 depending. Then next thing I did was under the special options I believe I was able to disable the #1 injector "cylinder power balancing" I was holding the rpms at about 1200rpms and was able to turn the power balancing on and off and watch the smoke start and stop with the tech II at idel it ran a little rough but not too noticable. I also tried disabling all the other injectors one at a time and the truck still smoked, except when injector #1 was disabled and it was completely gone!!
Looks like I am going to be taking it to the dealer on monday, and asking them to take there tech out and show them how to use there Tech II to diagnose faulting injectors after they just replaced all 8! I pressure checked the coolant system over night and it was fine.. so it looks like the sleeves are in good condition, except the injector it's self.
Thanks for the help,
Jon
However the truck sounded pretty cool with the fuel rail pressure maxed out idel, sounded like a gas motor with one heck of a cam in it!!

do you have bubbles in your radiator when the truck is running?

I would almost guarantee you have a bad injector. I have seen a couple of cases where one of the new injectors caused the condition you have experienced. I don't think it's a sleeve. If the sleeve were not seated in the bore you would get compression pushed into the cooling system. Massive leak from reservoir and evidence in reservoir of combustion gasses. The high balance rate tells all that is needed to take action. Replace that injector. Hope this helps.:D
