has anybody upgraded their turbo to a newer style VV turbo? also wondering if there any mods that you can do to the lb7's turbo or wastegate?

going to a VV would be backwards.

ATS is about a week away from releasing there big single kit. I have 4 already lined up for install....

Actually the IHI Turbo is plenty big enough. It's compressor map compares quite favorably between a Holset HX-40 and HX50 Turbos, in terms of airflow Lbs/min and efficiency in a smaller chassis at the expense of absolute pressure ratio.

Compare that to a Dodge HX-35 (their stock turbo) and it helps to explain our power advantage over the CTD with less mods. We also have a few more cubic inches (44) but the real story lies in Engine Volumetric Efficiency, And the Adiabatic Efficiency of the turbo (Adiabatic efficiency is the defenition of a turbos ability to compress the air without excessively heating the air charge)

What would be really interesting is to get the BMEP/IMEP of each engine stock, Their BSFC, and see who's design is the most efficient
