I was just wondering how many people have had the main injector pump go out on them. Mine just went out on my 1999 dodge ram with 91000 miles and i got the quote today from the dodge dealer and they want $2240.00 to replace it. Has anyone replaced one of these injector pumps themselves? How hard is it to do? Would it be a bad idea to buy a used one?

not terribly difficult to do yourself with a Ram S/Manual.
Make sure you 'Time' the pump you remove (align the markings as per Cummins) remove old, line up new pump and install.

Go to www.nwbombers.com (http://www.nwbombers.com/) , (in my sig it is hyperlinked) register and send a PM to Rip Rook.
He has a takeoff VP-44 (customer bought a hotrod VP-44 SO) and he will deal with you on it. Tell him I sent you.

Also , a VP-44 usually does not go out unless the LIFT PUMP has also died (fuel transfer pump from the tank is NOTORIOUS for failing causing the VP-44 to die so most CTD owners use an isolated Fuel press gauge to monitor it and replace it when it goes below 4 psi at WOT)
