: Gm Recall on Brakes
AC Man 02-10-2005, 09:13 PM Saw this today
DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors Corp. is recalling 155,465 pickups and sport utility vehicles - including the Hummer H2 - because of possible brake malfunctions, the world's biggest automaker and federal safety regulators said Thursday.
All of the affected vehicles are from the 2004 and 2005 model years and have Bosch hydro-boost brake assemblies. They are the Chevrolet Avalanche, Express, Silverado and Suburban; the GMC Savana, Sierra and Yukon XL; two commercial trucks, the GMC Topkick and Chevrolet Kodiak; and the Hummer H2, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
NHTSA said a pressure accumulator in the braking system could crack during normal driving and fragments could injure people if the hood was open. The crack also could allow hydraulic fluid to leak, which could make it harder to brake or steer and could cause a crash.
GM spokesman Alan Adler said the company did not know of any injuries related to the problem.
The automaker is expected to begin notifying consumers about the recall next month. Dealers will replace affected brake systems for free, NHTSA said.

Dear Chevrolet Customer:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Reason For This Recall: General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2004 model year Chevrolet Kodiak and certain 2004 and 2005 model year Chevrolet Avalanche, Express, Silverado, and Suburban vehicles. On some of these vehicles, the hydraulic brake booster’s pressure accumulator may crack and/or separate from the Hydro-Boost® assembly during normal vehicle operating conditions. If a separation were to occur and the hood of the vehicle were open, fragments from the accumulator could cause injury to people in the immediate area. In addition, the presence of this crack or fractured surface could allow the hydraulic fluid to leak from the accumulator circuit of the booster assembly. The loss of fluid would cause increased steering and braking effort.
What Will Be Done: Your Chevrolet dealer will inspect the hydraulic brake booster, and replace it if necessary. This service will be performed for you at no charge.
How Long Will The Repair Take? This inspection will take approximately 20-40 minutes. If the hydraulic brake booster requires replacement, an additional 1 hour will be required. However, due to service scheduling requirements, your dealer may need your vehicle for a longer period of time.
Contacting Your Dealer: To limit any possible inconvenience, we recommend that you contact your Chevrolet dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for this repair. By scheduling an appointment, your dealer can ensure that the necessary parts will be available on your scheduled appointment date. Should your Chevrolet dealer be unable to schedule a service date within a reasonable time, you should contact the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center between the hours of 8:00 AM and 11:00 PM, EST, Monday through Friday. ddp127 08-01-2005, 12:16 AM I came home from picking up my new contacts (YIPPEE!!! I can see again!!!) and my dad (k3mp) told me to go out and start his truck. So I did, nothing out of the ordinary, no messages in the DIC. I went back in and asked him why? He said something about a brake message and no pedal. Aieee. I wonder when he'll get a recall letter for this?
On a side note, we both got letters for our crewcab rear center seatbelts the other day. Wow, a seat where (at least with us) nobody ever sits, but no brakes...I guess no problem.
Friggin' dealer.
Have a good one!!
Dan
I finally hooked up my 04 to my 5th wheel today to check things out....used to tow with a 6L 2500 Silverado, now I have the Duramax....after hooking up an checking the lights out I decided to check my brakes....low and behold, those brakes that the GM dealer told me were good at this time (two weeks ago), went right to the floor and the ABS and the brake warning lights came on along with the DIC (service brake system)...gonna call the dealer in the AM again and give him a piece of my mind along with calling GM Customer Service and rip them apart also. I have the truck for 2 months on the 31st of July...put only 4K on it, bought it with 20K on it. Was going to tow next weekend but unless the dealer can straighten things out I guess towing is out. Also, my air is still screwed up...man they just don't care anymore...as the song says....go one take the money and run....I believe that is my dealer....time to look for another shop...never did I have problems like this with my 2001 Silverado...Wish me luck...
C.A.P 08-14-2005, 10:02 PM Im in the midst of a squable with a STEALER about brakes. MINE are spongy, to say the least, I had them look at them and they said they are fine, after I drove 500 miles I still think they are spongy ( hell my old 88 had better brakes) I will eventually GM survey them to death , and be the thorne in thier a$$ , UNTILL I GET GOOD PEDEL FEEL
dmaxlover 08-14-2005, 10:07 PM I had mine replaced, only because it was leaking slightly.
I called a different dealer this morning...service manager said I really do have a bad problem, when can I bring it in....told him on my way home tonite....hopefully this takes care of the problem, want to tow next weekend the 5'er with GVWR almost 12K.
Tech called me today from the dealer and told me that both high pressure lines were leaking and would be replaced....they should have the parts by tomorrow, 17th...and then I should have my truck back in the afternoon. I told the tech that the pedal better feel better and that I have to stop a 12K 5'er with it...I then asked if the Hydroboost might be bad....he wasn't sure until the new lines would be put one. At least this place is doing something for me...
