: Does your fuel filter look like this...
LBZ DMAX 02-10-2005, 06:47 PM After 5200miles? I just pulled mine today and looks pretty crappy. For all those that take apart their filters, is this common? Thanks for the help.:ro)
BTW, don't mind the broken plastic, it occured during disassembly!):h
NCMIC 02-10-2005, 07:21 PM looks like the one i took apart last week.
LBZ DMAX 02-10-2005, 07:37 PM looks like the one i took apart last week.At how many miles?
Mackin 02-10-2005, 07:46 PM Really looks normal as I have seen many just like that. With a vacuum system as we have it will tend to stripe and not completely use the whole element surface some what equally.
Add a lift pump and you'll see the difference in coverage. That Filter could have stayed filtering.
Is that the new filter element? Cut it in half ,could ya?
LBZ DMAX 02-10-2005, 08:01 PM Is that the new filter element? Cut it in half ,could ya?New filter element? Could you be a little more specific? I'm lost!! ):h
OmyLLwhy 02-10-2005, 08:19 PM And was there any rust inside the metal filter housing?
LBZ DMAX 02-10-2005, 08:24 PM And was there any rust inside the metal filter housing? No, it was clean.
JohnnyO 02-10-2005, 08:34 PM That looks pretty good. I've changed at 15K mikes and it looked worse.
briano 02-10-2005, 09:32 PM And was there any rust inside the metal filter housing?
just changed my stock fuel filter a few weeks ago and there was rust in the bottom. crappy fuel do that or what? I just changed from Shell to Chevron and getting much better results.
WanaDmxsub 02-11-2005, 12:02 AM New filter element? Could you be a little more specific? I'm lost!! ):hThe new filters have another filter element inside the one you can see. We are all waiting to see how dirting that element looks after some use.
diesel man 02-11-2005, 12:07 AM mine looked the same with about the same amount of miles .
jcummins 02-11-2005, 06:49 AM Have been changing at 15000, black from bottom up about three quarters of the way....but last change it was black top to bottom...in effect used up. I'm switching to 10000 mile changes.
Scotty Seelen 02-11-2005, 11:12 AM The filter doesn't look too bad to me. Mine was completely black when I changed mine at 34000 miles. I know I went too long. I'm changing mine every 15000 miles from now on.
Bill Gisse 02-11-2005, 11:23 AM That looks normal, probaly could have put anoth 7-10k on it. I'm anxious to see one of the new filters cut apart so we can see how much crap gets thru the outer pleated section and also an indication of how good the old filters are.
Mackin 02-11-2005, 07:44 PM New filter element? Could you be a little more specific? I'm lost!! ):h

3rd Generation Fuel Filter (Dec, 2004)
This is the current filter containing a filter within a filter. It replaces the first two generations and is intended for both the LB7 and LLY engines. It is the same size as the original LB7 filter.
