I am thinking of putting a turbo back exhaust system on my LMM. I understand the whole regen thing and just think it is a pile of crap. Dumping raw fuel into the exhaust!?....

I am wondering if anyone has had an issue with being fined, arrested, etc by removing their cat or dpf?

Or has anyone heard of someone who has had a run in with the law? You know...My cousin knows this guy who is the brother of the uncle who knows a guy who was shot for taking his muffler off....type of thing.....

Of coarse I would only use it for off road use.......Like everyone else here....:D

What's a purple dinosaur got to do with trucks? :)

It varies from state to state, but no law enforcement in Oregon has time for that silliness.

He's talking about Barney Fife. lol I have had trouble outta the law since i started driving many years ago with exhaust systems on cars. One town acutally banned my car in it cause when i went through it would set off the burglar alarms. lol

I have not heard of anyone having issues in my life either. There was a push years ago to not remove cats from cars.......except the ones that crawled into the engine compartment during the night.......those were kind of fun to remove.......

I had heard of people getting busted on road side checks where the po po's stuck mirrors under the cars and checked for missing cats. I would bet it happened somewhere but not wide spread.

I think I am going to do it...Unless I hear of bad things happening. I was really shocked at the oil I removed from my truck at my last oil change. I did not feel like any oil I have ever changed. Had a real slimy feel and was black a coal. I want to get the egr blocker and dpf removed as soon as I can. This can not be good for the oil passages in the engine or the engine in general.

Hopefully they will leave this thread open for a week or two to get a few more people's input. Thanks for the replys guys.

I only had this issue once on a car and that was 10+ yrs ago. Put glasspacks on my 68' 442. I got pulled over because the statie heard me coming (exhaust and tires) for about a 1/2 mile. He just pulled over and waited. :p: $600 fine!! and surcharges b/c they called it a moving violation. I would "assume", for what that's worth, that it would be a similar fine.

Put on the stock exhaust - fought it and they agreed to waive the fine.:D That cop waived to me every time I saw him after that. I think he wanted me to know he was watching (listening). haha

My Harley - well, that's another story. Haven't had a ticket stick yet - but some town are real tough.

I think that emissions checks are going to depend on locality. The feds drive the issue but the State and city drive/drove the emission checks here in Ohio. You could go 5 miles and go from an emission check are to no checks at all. I feel for our Cali brothers. I think you need a cat to smoke a cigarette out there.

If I had to give my guess. The 08 diesels had to pass emissions. They may be held to that standard some time in the future. Another reason I purchased my technically 07.

they can't really do nothing except give you a ticket for noise pollution. when diesels start to be smogged, then they will start coming after you. the more attention you attract the more the cops will find a way to get you.
