GM recalls 155,465 pickups, vans and SUVs for brake problem

Thursday, February 10, 2005

ASSOCIATED PRESS

General Motors Corp. is recalling 155,465 pickups and sport utility vehicles -- including the Hummer H2 -- because of possible brake malfunctions, the automaker and federal safety regulators said Thursday.

All of the affected vehicles are from the 2004 and 2005 model years and have Bosch hydro-boost brake assemblies. They are the Chevrolet Avalanche, Express, Silverado and Suburban; the GMC Savana, Sierra and Yukon XL; two commercial trucks, the GMC Topkick and Chevrolet Kodiak; and the Hummer H2, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

NHTSA said a pressure accumulator in the braking system could crack during normal driving and fragments could injure people if the hood was open. The crack also could allow hydraulic fluid to leak, which could make it harder to brake or steer and could cause a crash.

GM spokesman Alan Adler said the company did not know of any injuries related to the problem.

GM is expected to begin notifying consumers about the recall next month. Dealers will replace affected brake systems for free, NHTSA said.

Have some little box attached to the head on the LLY (you can tell here I'm mechanically challenged to the max) but it has a Bosch label. Little further reading and it says assembled in Mexico. Good German name going to hell. Probably has a bunch of China built crap inside.

I think you may have posted this in the right area. Look at the dates on the 2nd link. Looks like the production dates of the LLY's.http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/results.cfm

well I had originally posted here, because of the date thing... but then noticed there was another forum for recalls and TSB's and such... I guess the folks that need the info will find it here too though... ;)

Uh, I'd say you have bigger problems than getting hit by fragments if you have your hood open during normal driving... .. :D :badidea: :D

I bought my '05 used back the end of November, will I be notified if my truck is affected?

If you and your vehicle are properly entered in GM data system you should receive a recall notice. This is a little "iffy" since they still have me as owner of a 01 that was traded in at a dealer in July 04. Call 1-800-630-2438 (Chevy Center) with you VIN. They can tell you if your vehicle is in the recall group. Called them this AM and was tickled S**tless to learn my 04.5 was not on the recall list. Good luck!!!
