first off, awesome site, glad i found it. second i unfortunately do not own a gm diesel. what i do have is a 92 3/4ton chevy w/ 350. and it works fine getting me to and from points a and b. being a currently unemploted college student, i do a lot of "planning" for my future, and right now i'm "planning" to get a new pickup in a couple years (think 2007/8 model year). all that said, can some one please tell me the basic difference between the 3/4 and 1 ton pickups, and why theres a difference in price point between the chevy and the GMC? thanks for the help, glad to be here

Cause GMC's are mo better!! ;)
Seriously, when optioned out identically, the GMC and Chevy are very close in price. But since different options come with different trim levels, it's hard to get one-to-one parity on the build.
There are 2 version of the 3500, a Dual Rear Wheel, and a Single rear wheel. These names are misleading as the Dual actual is a Quad, and the Single is actually a dual. Both are rated for a higher rear axle load than the 2500.
The difference in the DRW is obvious. Wheels, tires, rear leafs and shocks, and dually fenders. The SRW is less obvious, wheels and tires, rear leafs.

hey thanks. I really wasn't sure since the drive train looked the same on both. Just so i'm clear, its really payload/suspension, right.

Yup difference lies in the payload capacity between the two trucks. What it really comes down to is the wheels and tires. They're different between the 2500Hd and the 3500's which is what allows the 3500 to carry more weight. It also does have a stiffer set of springs.
One thing of note, one member here got a reunel front end replacement for his 3500 recently and they had to custom make the brackets because they didn't know the 1 ton frame was a little different than the 3/4 ton frame. So the frame on the 3500 may be larger? I'm not sure but there is a difference at least on the front.
