Just added 315 17" tires/wheels and a 6" lift to my ride so I'm sure it's a matter of time before I need to upgrade the brakes. This is my daily driver and sees minimal mud but does see some tame off-roading now and then.

Drilled rotors look cool and look like they'd work well, but I've heard (mainly from slotted rotor marketing guys) that heat cracks will develop between the holes in drilled rotors.

I bought a pair of BBS slotted/oversized brakes for my last truck and they worked well. Now that I have a chance to reconsider, just curious what the word is on drilled rotors vs. slotted.

Would love to hear from anyone who actually works on performance brakes for a living.

Yes, that is a problem with drilled rotor.

Coming from the Corvette world, most guys who do not autocross or race their Vettes have pretty good luck with them. But those who often thrash their cars and race them have been replacing them.

My assumption here is that as long as you dont do a lot of heavy hauling and need to be on the breaks hard and long you will be OK.

Will you be towing\hauling much with your truck? Man that squirrel has big nuts.

I will haul a 30' 5th wheel now and then but not too often.

Drilled rotors are for honda's. Unless they are heat treated drilled rotors (like Mercedes and Porsche) they are just for looks. They actually reduce the surface area of the rotor for cooling.

Another thing I heard about drilled rotors verses slotted was, you can get the slotted ones turned on a milling machine, but you cannot mill the drilled ones, now thats what I read somewhere, if someone knows different, I myself would like to know.

Stay away from drilled rotors. Manufacturs offer them mainly because people like the look of them. Slotted is the way to go. They actually help promote dispersment of the heated gas that builds up between the pad surface and rotor under braking. The slots also help in giving the pad it's initial bite because of the edged surface traveling across the pad surface. Pads will wear out quicker but oh well. I had a couple different sets of rotors on my corvette and have torn up a sets of drilled/ slotted rotors in as little as one track day. The holes start to create micro fissures that migrate to other holes. Also have a set of Bear track system brakes (slotted) on my GN. They are slotted and have never given me any problem. Will outstop the vette too.

If you need more convincing just look at what they use in motorsports.
Nascar(road coarse)=slotted
SCCA=slotted
F1=slotted
Lemans=slotted
CART/IRL=flat or slotted
Drifting=drilled (I rest my case)

my rear rotors are startin to make the notorious rotors noise so i'm lookin at my choices. And to my shock the good rotors at our part supplier is sayin they are gonna cost me 140 bucks a piece my price so i'm thinkin about gettin some slotted rotors for the money. My part supplier also has a cheap alternative but they said they have so much problems with them that they don't stock them so. And suggestions about where to get the slotted rotors.
