I always run the econ tune while towing. Just curious if its safe to run the 50HP tune while towing heavy? I'll be pullin about 12,000 pounds. I dont have a pyrometer yet so i was just wondering if anyone else had done it.

I tow on the +70 tune because thats what i run all the time. gauges are still in garage. I have not noticed any problems. I tow a 24ft car trailer loaded with four wheelers. I think it might be close to 12,000lbs. I baby the pedal when i tow though.

From what I gather, keep at 50 or econ without guages if towing heavy. That's what I do, Dash hawk coming soon, though! Off sub, where in KY are you? Chris

I just towed a 10,000 pound trailer this weekend with my ppe set on the 190 Hp setting and had not problems. The Pyro got to about 1300 when I was pulling a huge hill for about a mile. Other than that it was all good.

50 should be fine. I run 70 when towing and no problems

You should be more than fine. I tow 18-25k daily on the economy tune. I don't have gauges nor do I have plans for them. I don't push the truck up grades, just let it find it's comfort zone and ride up the hill. When you push the truck hard is when you'll limp it or break stuff.

Along this same subject, when you are towing with the 50hp tune what tranny temps are you guys seeing? I have the 40hp towing tune towing about 5000lbs and saw as high as 199 degrees but mostly 168-176 degrees. Outside temps were about 40-42 degrees. Thanks for the help guys

When I towed with the quad on 50, I saw 1450* with a heavy foot pulling some steep grades. I was running in 3rd and 4th gear about 60-65 mph. I was giving it hell. On econo I rarely saw 1400*. Tranny temps got to about 160-170. Keep in mind fellas if your TC slips when it is locked on 70 or 90 it won't hold that power anymore. At least mine didn't. I had to run it on econo because it would unlock even on 50 when it slipped on 90 for the first time.
