I will be picking up my 1995 Tahoe 6.5 w/ 145k mi tomorrow and just wondered what sort of things I should do in preventive maintenance
and what modifications are the best bang for the buck? Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the forum! My best advice is to read through the FAQs, for LOTS of great tips and trick, and hints from the members. Also, be sure to fill out your signature! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53309 That said, I own a '95 Tahoe, and you can see what I did in my signature. First things first: I would recommend the following for reliability AND more power:
Remote mount your FSD asap. I personally recommend the Health FSD isolation kit. http://www.heathdiesel.com/T/Chevy-GM/Chevy-9495/PMD-Isolators/
I would open up your intake. Pull the snorkle if it has one, and hog out the upper intake. http://www.kennedydiesel.com/airboxmods.html
Then, open up the exhaust. Get one of the 3.5-4" exhausts, and if you can't afford that, I recommend the Flowmaster downpipe and crossover kit, which is very cost effective. I bought mine online for about $130 sans shipping.
Find a '97 intake assembly (get the whole thing - connectors, turbo muffler, etc.) and put that on with a '97 filter.
Remove your radiator and make sure it is spotlessly clean inside and out.
If you are going to stay off-road, eliminate your catalytic converter.
Put decent sway bars front and rear - BOY did that make a big difference for mine.If you do these things, you will find increases in power output at very low cost, increased engine responsiveness, and greater stability in handling. When you pocketbook has recovered, I would do the following:
Replace the oil cooler lines with stainless lines from Lubrication Specialists.
Gauges! Put in at LEAST boost and EGT, and transmission temp if you want to tow.
THEN, you can start looking at stuff like HO water pump, more aggressive chips, and a manual boost controller. There is a LOT of potential for power if your system is in good shape. I am around 9.5 seconds for my 0-60, and I am no where near maxed out on modifications. I just need more cash... Welcome, and have fun! Rob :)

along with what all turbotahoe said....i recomend changing all fluids and and filters to give youself a base line. That way you know when things need to be changed and that it was good at one time....I dont like taking the word of the seller when it comes to simple things like that

When replacing fluids be sure to include cleaning out the fuel bowl and install a new filter and perhaps a lift pump too.
Transmission flush, not just a change.
Suspension checkup for worn or near failing parts.
"After the pocket book recovers (great line TT)" you might want to consider new injectors; some have had great luck with them lasting for ever, some have recommended replacing them about this point in the life time of the vehicle.
Enjoy this site, read the FAQs, and you'll save $$ and frustration. Lots of ready and willing assistance here.

Good evening and thank you for the warm welcome. I just finished driving halfway from Norfolk to Mississippi in my 95 6.5 Tahoe. The previous owner hadnt taken great care of the truck, however its nothing a couple of weekends and a case of beer cant fix(tools and parts too of course!) So far the ride has been great and everything seems to be in good shape.
As for the Navy, I am a Student Naval Aviator fresh out of Primary flight training at Whiting Field in Milton, FL. I am currently waiting to being my Tailhook training in Meridian, MS flying the T-45C.
