I am thinking of getting the Predator . I plan on using it for tire size change and to run it at the 40hp setting. Do I need to upgrade my truck with gauges, bigger exhaust, and etc?????

Lots of DP discussion on this. I would recommend an EGT gauge as a minimum, a requirement if you are going to do any towing with it engaged. Once you know what your EGT's are you will know if you need a larger exhaust, WI or something similar to lower EGT's.

On edit, I was at the same point myself several weeks back. I was ready to buy the Predator and started pricing a decent gauge package. To have EGT, boost and engine temp gauges installed was going to run around $400. Predator was around $450, $400 for gauges put me around $850.

The more I thought about it the E/J w/attitude monitors all of those, plus it provides tranny protection, defueling between shifts, EGT alarm, etc. I wasn't looking for launching power, just more grunt for pulling. The E/J provides that. Cost around $675 w/attitude. You might want to check them out as well. Some report the E/J doesn't engage in really cold temps. I haven't experienced this, but the lowest temps I've been in were 22*.

I'm going to have the EGT probe installed tomorrow, then have the truck dyno'd at levels 1-3 to see what hp/tq I'm really getting from the E/J. I'll post those results FYI. JJ :)

I would say gauges are not necessary in this case, but a good idea. You will most likely not run into temp issues in the 40 HP tune, but a pyrometer is cheap insurance.

"I plan on using it for tire size change and to run it at the 40hp setting."

If you could do a search on this phrase, I'd bet that 90% of us have said that. If you really think you can stay out of the other tunes you should be alright. Just remember it's harder than you think, just look at most of us.
