hey all,
i am new to the forum and have recently purchsed a 2001 lb7 duramax. now i ahve a few questions about the truck.
it has a banks six gun tuner on it and the motor is surging a bit at idel...after looking around on the forum i have found that it could be the injectors, the cp3 pump or the fuel pressure regulator
can anyone tell me what the deal is on the warranty on the injectors?...how can i figure out the in service date to see if my truck is covered?
how can i find out if my injectors are balanced?
also i had my allison 1000 flushed at jiffy lube and on a trip back from santa cruz to sacramento ca the tras got really hot and i had to sit and let the truck idel for 1 hour before it finally cooled down enough to drive....now it slips a bit and is really bumming me out.....luckily i got a drivetrain warranty when i bought it.
so i am going to change the tranny fluid and filter tonight after class is there a way to get all the trans fluid out of the tranny? and then refill with new synthetic? i know that fluid will still be in the tc but i would like to get most of the burnt fluid out.
thanks in advance for any help you all can give me!!

My 01 has been surging since I bought 1 1/2 years ago , but it only does it when the motor is cold once it warms up it's fine. Your injector warrenty is probably up , you can get a vin check and build sheet in the vin request section and it will tell you if your truck has had anything replaced on it since it came from the factory, like for ex. the injectors. The injector warrenty is 7 years or 200,000 miles. And the build sheet will tell you everything about what options came with the truck. As for the tranny , those guys probably over-filled it that's why it got hot , But if you haven't changed the spin on filter it would probably be a good idea. I would also change the fuel filter and check all the fluids in the diffs and especially the transfercase. Then you should be doing pretty decent for a while. Be sure to change the fuel filter at least every 10,000 miles they like to get dirty. There is a pic of one in my garage with 15,000 on it. Anyway welcome to the site and have fun with your new truck!

For the surge, try removing your fuel filter, and empty it, unless you have not changed it, then buy a new one, and fill it with a can of SeaFoam and reinstall it, prime the system and it is a good way to clean out the fuel system from the filter head to the injectors. Then buy a quart of 2 stroke oil, any cheap kind you can find, and throw it in the fuel tank, and fill the tank full. That will lubricate the CP3 pump, and everything else in the fuel system, along with the pressure regulator which has a piston in it, and it fixed MY surge over a year and a half ago, and all is still SMOOOTH!

Q) it has a banks six gun tuner on it and the motor is surging a bit at idel...after looking around on the forum i have found that it could be the injectors, the cp3 pump or the fuel pressure regulator
A) The issue for the surging most of the time is that the fuel pressure is leaking back.
If this is the case, the surge will be out of sinc with the engine revolution.
Q) can anyone tell me what the deal is on the warranty on the injectors?...how can i figure out the in service date to see if my truck is covered?
A) I just had mine done, first I requested a vin check with a build sheet, that date my truck to its service date, it was at the end of 2001. When I brought it in, I stated that the white smoke was present on acceleration. They changed all eight on warrenty. They also said that the connection point of the fuel supply pipes required cleanning or replacement, they cleaned mine and charged me 250 for the complete job.
Do this before getting your regulator changed/cleaned. Note the difference in the surge.
Q) how can i find out if my injectors are balanced?
ME: I do not know this one but on my gasser, I pressure up the system and they sell a tool that connected to an individual injector and asserts a short pulse. I note the starting pressure and the system pressure after the pulse. It is then repeated for each injector. If the presure drop is the same for each injector, they are ballenced.

ME: I also changed my tranny fluid at the dealler. I did it twice at about 80k and 90k. She works like a champ now. I had them flush it. After the first time I wasn't happy with the way it was working so I did it again. Maybe the tech was sleeping the first time :(
