: Should I Wait To Buy
fieldeagle 02-10-2005, 08:45 AM I am currently looking at buying a D-Max. But based on the thread about engine vibration, should I wait or go with another brand?
Any feedback from those of you who have the 04/05 D-Max would help. Would you buy your 04/05 if you had it to do all over again?
BK Tool 02-10-2005, 09:08 AM I have an 05 and I don't seem to have any vibration. Smooth as silk!
I'd buy another in a Heartbeat! Hmmm, Heartbeat... has kind of a ring to it;)
Slide 02-10-2005, 09:13 AM Are you talking about the "Drone"? If that is it I wouldn't worry too much about it. Mine has it and though it is irritating at times I haven't noticed it when I am cruising down the road at highway speeds or in town. Only seem to get it when I am accelerating or running somewhere between 55 and 60. It wouldn't have detered me from by the truck. More comfortable and smoother riding then the Ford and larger and not as "plasticky" on the inside as the Dodge,
aka108 02-10-2005, 09:22 AM When warmed up and at highway speeds it is smooth as a school marms leg. No problems in town. You bet I'll buy another.
jflem 02-10-2005, 09:23 AM Granted i only have 2300 miles on mine but i love it. i have no vibrations or drone that i am aware of. so no regrets here.:D
snowsdog 02-10-2005, 09:37 AM I have two an 01 and 04.5. They are great trucks!! i have the drone noise in my 04.5, but I have gotten use to it, It did not start until I had 17,000 miles on it. At 22,000 now. My 01 has over 260,000 and has been a great truck
towin43 02-10-2005, 09:38 AM No vibrations. Would buy again.
aegis 02-10-2005, 09:42 AM 2005 no problems.. Deffinately would buy again. Wish they had the Duramax in other GM vehicles.
dmaxhd 02-10-2005, 09:43 AM the big three all have some type of issues...I have also had two, an 03 and now the 04.5 and don't care to look at the other two brands. These trucks IMHO have the best interior and the best ride. Get the bucket seats for the Bose stereo and you can't go wrong; awsome!:ro)
lakingslayer 02-10-2005, 10:00 AM I'd do it all over again if I had too. I don't hear the drone that much since I spend most of my time at 2000 to 2300rpms these days. When it do hear the drone it isn't bad.
CjJimmys 02-10-2005, 10:01 AM I love my Dmax/Allison and would definitely buy again. All brands are going to have issues and they need to be worked out as they appear.
Jim
McRat 02-10-2005, 10:40 AM When my truck was bone stock, it was hard to tell the engine was running. Nowadays the 4" straight pipe informs of the engine status very clearly.
WAskier 02-10-2005, 10:56 AM Mine has never made any drone on the highway, knock on wood. It actually suprised me how quiet it runs on the highway.
Thinkmoto 02-10-2005, 11:18 AM My 05 has no drone/vibration at speed or at idle really. It is a diesel and thats clear but it is damn smooth :) This is my second dmax and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another..if I had the money
a_chevelle 02-10-2005, 11:48 AM I do not have any problems with mine. I have 4300 miles on it. Ihave had it since Sept. 04. Runs perfect. No reflash or anything. I am looking foward to the next 300,000 miles. Then I will buy a new one!!!!):h DMAX all the way!!!!
JMac24 02-10-2005, 11:49 AM If you switch dont go with Ford if you dont want a drone. Ive got an 04 6.0 that has a drone as well between 18-2000....I cant find the post right now on FTE as the search is disabled......All these trucks will have noises etc. There are a lot of moving parts! Go with what fits you best IMO. I went with Ford on impulse (had an 02 Silverado Gasser) cause it was pretty and ooooohhhh. It was a mistake. Im a Chevy guy and the Ford is having issues. Ill be back in the clan soon. Working a deal for an 05 Max
driveawedge 02-10-2005, 03:30 PM I have an 05 with 5K miles on it. If it drones it isn't enough to bother me. I'd buy again in a second.
bamacj 02-10-2005, 04:57 PM I have an 05, and other that the low fuel pressure bug I love it. Yes I Would buy another.:ro)
JJs DuMax 02-10-2005, 05:17 PM :exactly: what they said! JJ :)
LBZ DMAX 02-10-2005, 06:29 PM I have an 05, and other that the low fuel pressure bug I love it. Yes I Would buy another.:ro)Ditto! Only problem I have encountered so far!(*knock on wood!)):h
rescue7 02-10-2005, 08:20 PM 05 No drone or vibration. love truvk would buy again. Dont wait get it and enjoy
mahalkita 02-11-2005, 01:01 AM Well I have traded a perfectly running Avalanche which used less fuel had more convenience options (because there were disabled on the 2005 trucks...) and was running perfectly smooth. I thought it was boring because I could not find anything wrong with it, nothing really to improve...
Now I have a new 2005 with the drone syndrome. It runs only smooth below 1500 RPM and somewhat above 2000 RPM but then comes the hiss from the turbo which is also getting annoying in the ears. Of course you can really pull a big load with that truck, but thats not what I really need right now. I bougt the truck for fun only, easy to modify, put more power in very cheap etc.
So I am NOT really 100 % sure that I made the right decision since this trucks costs soo much more money and nerves....
Maybe I am disappointed because I have a dealership which does not really care or has no clue how to take care of the problem.
If you don't buy GM on the other hand you will NOT need to read this forum and will not be punished with the modifying virus and life will be very boring....not need to fight with the wife etc....
If you love this forum like most of us you have to get the truck to really enjoy it and participate....
:muahaha:
RickDLance 02-11-2005, 10:02 AM No problems here except some less than ideal MPG compared to LB7. I'm sure its emmisions related.
maxepr 02-11-2005, 10:15 PM I've had mine just less than 8 weeks and have 3000 miles on it. I love it and would replace in a heart beat. I just did a 400 mile interstate trip and got more than 21mpg at 60 to 65 mph. It's very quiet.
MiDmax 02-12-2005, 07:07 PM I love my Truck! ;) Absolutely no Problems. I do miss the little extras the GMC had over my CHEVY in the interior though. Mileage as previously posted, is a little lacking in comparison to the LB7
EricM 02-12-2005, 10:57 PM 4700 mi on my 05 and no drone, squeaks, rattles or problems of any kind. I'd definitely buy it again.
dmaxalliTech 02-12-2005, 11:01 PM Those who wait to buy the latest will never buy.....
BuckeyeQuicky 02-13-2005, 12:49 AM Mines running great, although the ticking was driving me crazy for awhile, I did noticed last month that it was slowly going away, and then last week we went on an 800 mile trip, and now it has completely disappeared.
