: $90 for a License Plate Braket?!?

I live in NJ (I appreciate your condolences) and I just got a $42 ticket for not having a front license plate on my 03 Sierra.

Grumbling, i went to the GM part counter for a front license plate bracket. Much to my surprise and the guy behind the counter, it was $90 with tax! I just can't justify spending $90 for a piece of plastic.

However, I can't seem to find an after market part that fits the bill. I have two small screw holes in the front of my bumper about 3-4 inches apart. Has anyone found something inexpensive that fits this bill before I lost it and just screw the license plate through my plastic bumper?

there are holes up front already for it. in order to make it stick up straight all you need are some spacers. hang it from the top hooks and put the spacers behind it.

Putting it on the dash isnt gonna do any better job than not having one at all. It dosent make it any better that its still not mounted on the bumper...

I'd go and get a cool customized plate bracket or something that look or says something cool.

The day I pay a hundred bucks at a dealership for a ****in' plate bracket is the day that I start using heroin to help me sleep at night...Because by then, my mind is already distorted enough to go on living...

Dealerships are the biggest rip off's on the planet....The service departments couldnt pull out teeth with a spoon, even if GM spelled out how to do it....No disrespect of course to those of which who work there...Just saying that in all the states I've lived in, I've yet to find a dealership service manager or tech who knows anything about our trucks.

Go to Advance Auto they have a universal bracket that works. Just use fuel line or some other spacer, about 1/2", to clear the bottom gray plastic on the bumper otherwise it will angle up. BTW it only cost $5.

I was pulled over and given a ticket here in texas for putting it in the dash. Officer told me that she couldn't see it clearly. I told her I could see it just fine. All she had to say after that was 2 words. Officers Discretion. But this was in texas.

ok, i'd say just go to autozone and get that universal one. second don't put it in the dash b/c they will give you a ticket for that too, believe me. third don't put a frame around the plate cause that's a ticket too. **** Jersey and their stupid laws!!

I know here in Texas they will only give you a ticket for the frame if it's covering the Texas Lettering. Alittle to pridefull if you ask me.

why not just drill a couple new holes in your plate so it lines up with holes in your bumper and install it that way.

Illegal to bend drill write on or otherwise alter a plate here.

No front plate is a solid probable cause for a stop. It isnt chicken shit like license plate lamp or something like that. Of course, thats just my opinion.

Of course, thats just my opinion.no offence...but where I come from..baja california plates are more than probable cause...hmmmmm,no license,no insurance,no cali registration,no smog equipment...shall I go on?..but the cops here are pulling over for lifts without mudflaps and a broken tailight, and freekin" no front license plate on blue collar workers and giving tickets..and fines..because that is where the $ is....all to add to the state budget that is is bankruptsee,so see, that is my rant...sorry for the RANT...but the whole thing seems like a scam to me-JMO-michael:eek:;)

Yea- I parked my truck in a pay parking lot .at LAX- and was gone for a week -- when I returned-- had a ticket -- no front license plate. But I felt safer in LA because they are doing their job like keeping criminals like me in line! Of course the Gang-Banger are not bothered!

I have the front plate on my truck, but not on our car. Our local cops are cool and have looked the other way (small town), but I think the front plate is ugly on the truck, but would be downright hideous on the BMW, and the plate holes were never drilled in the bumper on it, so I'll just play stupid if I get pulled over I guess. I am sure the second we get photo radar here in greater numbers, they'll start really enforcing the front plates. Good idea too, cause I am such a law breaker. Criminal to the core I am.

Funny, I phoned the parts dept for a price...think it was around $40 but he wouldn't give me the pt. number, only a reference # for the quote. Customer service at it's finest.

So far in Alberta, no front plates required, but the topic has been surfacing again.

why would you possibly need a front plate?

why would you possibly need a front plate?

Because unlike TN, most states require one!

I just drilled two holes in the plate to match up to the existing mounting holes. Works perfect and it was free.

I know there are states that require one, i'm looking for their reasoning. What , to them, justifies the need to have one?

I like the idea of using spacers. I may have to give that a try.

Because they can. It's a control issue mostly. Just like there is a law on the books in Wells, Tx. that says your not allowed to Flatulate in public. Or, if your in a burger joint, not allowed to take a bite of someone elses burger. Even to taste it to see if yo might want one. The government sucks. But it is better than the alternative. Another foreign countries laws and government. The U.S. it's states isn't perfect by any means, But it's better than the rest overall.
