First...do all LLY's have an EGR? FE9 on LB7's indicate Federal Emissions Pkg and no EGR. But does FE9 on LLY's still indicate Federal Emissions yet to include an EGR based on new requirements for the standard?

Since some report heavy soot in the intake after blocking an EGR, is there any way to clean this out short of disassembly and mechanical removal ie: scrubbing or chemicals?

pretty sure all LLYs have EGR

it's easy to take the intake off. just a few bolts. took a can of brake cleaner to clean mine.

i would not do anything like cleaning until you remove the parts. you definately don't want that junk going into your engine.

X2!!! Brake Kleen can be very flammable, acting like starting fluid if you hose it down the intake. It WILL cause the motor to run away and with enough, it will blow something up. Make sure that stuff is NOWHERE near the intake unless it's off the truck.

If the intake is removed for cleaning are there gaskets that need to be replaced?

The intake tubes are all connected with hoses and clamps! Just be careful when removing them and you can reuse them. I cleaned mine with paint thinner- just make sure they are dry before reatching them. Might be a good time to re-route the PCV so it will keep the tubes and inter cooler cleanerer. It would be difficult to clean the effects of the EGR without removing a lot of parts-- No one does it- and that should not be a problem anyway!

I had the resonator off last night measuring parts for the PCV bypass, and I was thinking about removing the intake to clean it before my EGR blocker gets here (should be today), but I didn't know where to start. Anyone have a picture of the intake section that is easy to remove? Looked like a pile of crap on top of my engine! I assume that this is the same part that will need to be drilled and tapped for a boost gage? Might drill it and plug it while I have it off (no gauges yet).

I removed my EGR and the amount of bolts and pieces seems intimidating but it is very easy to do. Everything is easy to remove, just remember where each piece goes when you remove it. I had everything off up to my turbo, and it was easy. I was just methodical as to how I took everything apart and put it back together.

PS I do have pictures here of my intake that I have posted, just search my posts and you should find them.
