Has any of you guys tryed to hollow out the cat but leaving it in the same place so that it looks legal but you still get the performance. I wonder how that would sound hollow.

Its just as easy to get a replacement downpipe and put the cat back in for warranty work.

And (if I'm not mistaken) a downpipe costs about 1/2 as much as the cat does!

Watched a partner in crime try that old "they say" stunt. He couldn't pound out the interior with a digging bar or a long rod & hammer. It isn't worth the trouble. He eventually cut the top side of the CAT off and removed the "guts" and then welded the top back in place. He failed the sniffer test at the next emissions test for his license plate renewal. That's when we did what dpower suggested. Replaceable exhaust parts with flanges. BTW this was on a 4.0L jeep.

I guess nobody really cares if the cat is there or not - what matters is the proper function of the cat when tested. Therefore I would remove it and replace it with straight pipe and keep it safe to put back on when required - same with the skinny original wheels and tires...

Do our venders carry the down pipe conversion piece?
