I have a friend who has a 2000 Chevy 2500; not an HD, 6.0, 4dr, 4x4, 4:10 rear end. He would like to know if his truck will have any problems pulling a 22' gooseneck flatbed trailer and hauling his tractor/6ft brushog. Tractor weighs approximately 9000 lbs, unknown weight on the brushog.

He's been told he needs a heavier truck; i.e., HD 3/4 or 1 ton. Any help greatly appreciated.

I traded my 2004 2500 (non-HD) with the same setup as your friend, and can tell you that the truck will be working extremely hard to pull that...it's the reason I traded for a 3500 with the 8.1 and Allison. I wouldn't recommend it but it's up to your friend. The 2500 was just not enough to tow it safely and the engine/tranny was working itself to death. The 3500 dually doesn't even know it's back there. :D

i have no real world experience towing that load with my truck, but according to chevys website, there is no difference in towing between the 2500 & 2500HD. actually, the non-HD can tow an extra 100lbs since the truck is a bit lighter.

1500HD/2500 - 9900lbs trailer, 16,000 GCWR
2500HD - 9800lbs trailer, 16,000 GCWR

if you step up to an 8.1 or DMAX, its increased to 12,000/22,000 on either 2500HD or 3500.
