I just recieved my Air hitch friday before I went camping in my Travel trailer and wow I can't beleive what a difference in the ride. All of the sudden jolts and jarring is all gone. An Air hitch is a must if you tow all the time. It helps with vehical and trailer wear and the passengers and drives fatique. I found ine and I'll have to post some pics of it later. Not to mention it is rated for 12,000 lbs. and 1200 lbs. tonge weight. My Dailly work trailer is about 900 lbs. tonge weight and my Travel Trailer is about 900 lbs tonge weight with not much stuff in it.

Would you happen to have a pic of it? Not sure I've ever heard of an air hitch?

It's the shortest air hitch I've seen and works completely different then the rest thet I've seen. not to mention about $650 less expensive

That is a pretty slick hitch. Too bad it doesn't look like distribution bars are compatible with that system.

I thought the same thing. But the cost is so reasonable I think I am going to get one anyway, I do not use them on most the units I tow anyway.

Am I missing something? If your stock hitch is only rated for 9k/ #900 tongue, more with a w/d bars. But if no w/d bars, how can you expect to run more tongue weight on the stock hitch?
Aren't you just exceeding the limit of the stock hitch?
edit: If anything, aren't you decreasing your cap. on a stock hitch, if that thing weighs 20lbs. your cap is now 880 lbs?
or is that not a factory hitch?

Right now it's a stock hitch unfortinently but the until I got this hitch I never realized how heavy my tonge wieght was. You Can use the hitch to figure out how much tonge wieght you have. For every 100 lbs. on the receiver it takes 5 lbs. of air. So saying all that I thought before I got the hitch that I was close to my limits but now I now I am a little over so I have been trying to figure out how to buget in a new class V hitch in the near future.

And just so you now you can get this to fit a standard 2" or 2 1/2" receiver. Because I already have a 2" I'm looking at either getting a class five with a 2 1/2" and gettint the adapter for it or I found some class V that come with a 2" receiver hole so only time and money will see what I get.

I have a shocker setup like that, but it isn't air. I can't get mine to work though. I don't remember what it is, but something on my hitch hits and I can't get it slid back enough to get my pin in to hold it.

A very impressive looking hitch.

How much longer is it from a stock class III/IV?
What is the list price of it?

Thanks for the info.

Just get a Putnam xdr, they can be had for just over a $150.

The hitch is about 8" haven't check but I remember reading that somewhere. I bought the Receiver Air Shocker Package that comes with the combo ball mount and it cost $349.00 plus $25.00 for shipping. Total $374.00 Ordered it on a friday at 3:00 pm and got it on the next friday by 2:00 pm

Theres an air valve on the side you can see it in the first pic of the left side of the unit. I have a little portable compressor made to inflat tires that I cut the 12v plug off of anf wired a 7 pin trailer connector to so now I can hook up a trailer and plug the compressor in and fill it to the correct level.

And yes you can get a pintle for it. They have the combo ball mount or you can get a drop or raised ball mount w/ or w/ out the balls. the heavy duty ones require an 1 1/4" shaft on your ball.

I have the AirSafe fifth wheel hitch and I couldn't agree more about the jolts and bucking being eliminated. What surprises me is that more folks haven't gotten one. Once you experience an air ride hitch, I doubt that you'd want to tow without it.

Here is the type that I use when I pull my car trailer. I share it with my friend who breeds Shire horses. Since he pulls some large horses long distances, he's noticed that the horses legs are no longer swollen upon arrival and there is little fatique. Since it really controls the resonance at the hitch, I just noticed that stuff in my cabinets are not jostled around. Oh, and we both use the weight distribution hitches like in the first photo.

That was the first air hitch that a saw a couple years ago at an rv show and I really wanted one but then I saw the price and couldn't see spending that kind of money, then I saw the one that I have now and am extreamly happy and cost about 1/3 the price but that is a veary nice hitch with alot of features.

Yep, I hear ya about the price. I needed to use my weight distribution hitch. I figured the extra $650 was worth it compared to the value of what I was towing...especially my friend with the horse breeding farm...why he's not investing in a gooseneck is a whole other topic and pet peeve of mine. :D Good luck with the Shocker Hitch...I hope it really works out for you - it should save on the beating the road takes out on the rig and trailer.

How much did it help the ride, here in IL and up through WI the road are so bad (washboard) after just a short time I am in pain and have a headache. I have tried 750 and 1000 pound bars and different settings with both (on my Mega and my LBZ) with little success. I am mostly concerned with ride since the trailers are new units going to dealers and not mine:p:.

I almost ordered the shocker but I would like to be able to run the bars when I am towing some of the larger units.

Thanks

For me, since I haul an inanimate object, it was noticeable in that my tools and equipment weren't in disarray when I would get to my destination (my tools an cabinets are in the front of the trailer). The biggest difference was with my friend who breeds Shire horses. His yearlings no longer have swollen legs even after 400-500 miles. He used to have to arrive a day, or two, before the halter classes to allow the swelling to go down in his horses' legs. He drove along side as his ranch manager drove the rig and trailer and was really impressed at how much of the resonance was eliminated by the air hitch. I would recommend the Air Safe Hitch if you are dealing with large tongue weight issues and use the weight distribution bars, like I do, which was the reason I opted for the Air Safe over the Shocker.

Its not to bad when I am hauling the smaller rv's, but when I get into the 30-32 ft rv's and especially the ones with front kitchens the ride is rough. I guess its time to save a couple bucks and try it. My first comfort upgrade is an air seat base which I should have in a few weeks. I was going to do Kelderman 2 bag air ride next, but maybe I will sneek in the hitch:D.

The air hitch doesn't chane the ride of the truck but in a way it does. It's going to remove the jolts and harshness that the tow vehical and trailer pass to each other. now the trailer hits a bump and is isolated from the truck and you don't feel it because the air bag absorbs it. I have a 30' Travel Trailer and didn't use a weight distribtion hitch before I got the shocker so I was able to use the Shocker Hitch. The first time I used it was with my TT and the wife couldn't beleive the difference in the ride and You could bearlly even tell we were pulling a tailer.

I absolutely agree...the air hitch will not change the ride characteristics of the back of the truck, but it will prevent the energy of the road resonance and jolts from being transferred through the tongue and into the trailer chassis and vice versa.

I've used air-assist systems on the back of my previous duallies, but it didn't help with the energy transfer through the tongue...in fact, I think it made it worse. They did help with load levling. Haulin-rv, regarding the air seat, let me know how it works - I am very interested...one of my favorite things of a Top Kick/Kodiak. :D

X2.It is a must for pulling any kind of weight IMO.

Your shocker hitch looks great, just need a better platform to hook it to.
