What are some easy things to do or cheap to make my 02 Duramax sound better. Not willing to spend the money for 5 inch yet but will in the future. Any suggestions are appreciated.

If whistle is what you are looking for and afe stage 2 intake would do that. I straight piped my truck orginally by cutting off the muffler and putting in a piece of flex pipe. Now for real good sound get 4 inch pipe into six inch stacks.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif

I'm not sure if the D-maxs have them but the Strokes and Cummins have silencer rings on the air inlet side of the turbo. My friend has a 99 Dodge cummins and we took the silencer ring off it there is no loss in power and it makes it whistle... what more could anyone ask for? :thumb:
Pretty simple to take off just pop off the pipe that connects the air filter to the turbo. Inside the turbo there should be a snap ring pop it off with a flat screw driver or knife. Pull the ring out.

Lopped off cat and cut about seven feet of pipe off my exhaust. Used the OEM pipe I had cut off to make a straight pipe wher the cat used to be. It is louder but not over whelming, exits just before the passenger rear tire and give s the turbo whistle also. The intakes on the D-Max have a dead air space, the plastic diamond plate part on the top, that silences the whistle. If you can take that off at teh rubber hose part and then make a tight seal over the hole there, should be whistle'n dixie.

04'deezil,
That is the intake resonator... it is supposed to make the intake quieter, but I blocked it off and it did not make a significant difference. On the other hand, I custom made an intake with 4 inch rubber hose (for clamps) and 4 inch aluminum pipe... Now it whistles!! Especially when I really get on it, the turbo gets a humming, sounds good!
Unfortunately, I don't have any pics, but it is a very clean install and looks good.
