So here I was on the way home last night and I passed this guy in a Hemi in the right hand lane. Turns out I got his attention 'cause he then blew by me in the right lane as I was slowing for traffic. So I sees the next light coming up and I says to myself "self, let's se what that hemi is made of". Thing is, when we got to the red light, he stayed in the right lane and the left lane was lined up so I had to pull up behind him. So not only did he have a full truck length lead on me, I pretty well had to wait until he took off before I could throttle up so I figured if I could at least stay on his tail, he'll probably be surprized. Light turns green, he takes off, I take off, he gets a little farther ahead, and then it happens.....The duramax spools up and I start reeling him in like a dead salmon. I whip back into the left lane and go by him all within an 1/8 of a mile from the light. He was a good sport though, he was smiling when I went by him, he knew he was beat. These hemi guys around here think they are king of the hill so it was nice to put one in his place. The other thing is, I only had it on the 1/2 power setting, way to go VanAaken!!

Dutchie,

EXCELLENT, that's the same response we have been getting with all the LLY van Aaken customers so far. Strong power, low smoke levels and lots of thinned out tires!!!!!

Does anyone have specifications or details on the Van Aaken For LLY engines? Also,I'm puzzled, because if you go to the Van Aaken site (Vanaaken.com/usa/#) it states that the Van Aaken for LLY's are coming soon...implying, not for sale yet.....what gives???

Dutchie, are you getttin any turbo barking? Are you running the 70hp setting? Do you ever hear any timing knock with the released unit? Has your tranny adapted or how is the shifting performance?

That is cool and all but the only chance I had to race a hemi, I smoked him with my stock truck. I think of the hemi as a marketing gimmic.

I highly doubt a stock dmax is gonna smoke a hemi...especially one in a 1500 series truck. Maybe I am wrong but I just don't think so.

I beat a 3/4 ton extended cab short box hemi with my stock 3/4 ton extended cab short box Duramax, three times in a row. He's a buddy of mine. Got him by three truck lengths before shutting down at 97mph.

I'm very impressed with the VanAaken, very little smoke, no turbo bark yet, and the Allison adapted well... very smooth shifts. I've run both the 70 and the 130 setting. The 130 is totally wicked, but both settings have excellent driveability. I was told by the vendor that both settings are safe for the stock Allison but I'm not sure. I heard that the first beta unit had some timing knock issues but this doesn't. Looks like VanAaken has done their homework.

You must have a good one. I lined up with a hemi last summer with my stock LLY and he beat me pretty good. My brother has one also and they do work well, a lot of guys are running about 15.5 in the 1/4 which isn't too bad for a stock truck. Keep in mind that they already have a 2000lb weight advantage over our 2500 HD's.

If its truly a 130hp tune then no way is it safe for a stock allision. Also...if a stock hemi runs around a 15.5 then a stock dmax has no chance......

When I raced him, his Hemi was pretty green-about 500 miles on it. My truck had 10,000 miles. For the record, an extended cab short box 3/4 ton Hemi runs a 16.5 1/4 mile.

I guess I was talking 1/2 ton hemi regular cab and quad cab which are probably a fair bit lighter than the 3/4. The one I beat the other night was a 1/2 ton quad cab short box and my brother has a 1/2 ton regular cab shorty, and believe me, it's quick. I can't wait to run him though!!

Dutchie,
The Hemi seems to be more sensitive to lugging weight around than GM gas motors. My uncle has a regular cab short box 2wd Hemi, and he runs a 15.0 at the track-quite a difference. He weighed in at 4950lbs with him IN IT. I would need my 6-gun with speedloader on level 4 to tie or beat him. He does have a Magnaflow exhaust and Airaid intake, but those gains are slight.
