Hi I’m new to the forum and just purchased my first diesel a 2002 6.0 Duramax about 3 months ago. The truck has 65k miles on it and within the first month the injectors went. No biggie as GM knows they are notorious of this.

Now I have another problem.

<o:p></o:p>

My Service Engine Soon light came on and what I’ve read it could have been the fuel as it came on just after I filled up. Well after three tanks it’s still on. About every 3 or 4 days the light will go off for the day but comes back on. I’ve checked the air filter and it’s clean as a whistle. One thing I noticed last night (not saying it’s anything causing this because diesels are all new to me) is on the passenger side of the motor in the back at the exhaust there is a solenoid with a rod that goes back to a oval shaped lever. This looks like it works off of heat and vacuum but I’m not sure. Anyways, I am unable to move the lever at all. It’s stuck in the 4 to 5 o’clock position and doesn’t move even after it’s hot.

<o:p></o:p>

Is there anything else or way that I can check for other diagnostics? And how?

<o:p></o:p>

Thanks

Russ

Go to your local AutoZone or whatever and have them pull the codes. It should be helpful in diagnosis of your problem which is causing the light to set.

I stopped by Auto Zone and the test stated Malfunctioning Glow Plug. They couldn't pin point the exact one plus they don't carry them. I drive away and the light goes out. This morning light still out on the way to work then halfway here it comes back on. Can one or more glow plugs be intermittent? Or could it be elsewhere?

Are you not under warranty? The engine is covered up to 100,000 miles. (5 years)

I guess you could say yes, but if it was just a $5/$10 item it's not worth taking it to the dealer. IMHO

Easiest would be to head to the dealer IMHO. Otherwise you'll have to test to find the correct glow plug, if that is the culprit as the code indicates.

If I'm not mistaken it's like a $100 deductable. Isn't it just a matter of checking the ohmn's of each. http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/ups/sicdeth/headscratch.gif

Diesel Power, just replaced a couple of his. If you do a search you should be able to find his post. Maybe 3-4 months ago?

RussSounds to me like you are decribing the wastegate acuator. Only comes open when boost is high. Lets the turbo bleed off some pressure. That rod being tight is normal.

Or if it is down on the side, probally the EGR. Don't have one so not familar with the operations.

It is sounding more like a problem with the controller if it is setting the code/light while you are driving, at least IMHO.
