I'm new to being a diesel owner and new to this forum. In cruising the web for info I found this sight and after doing some reading felt this was a good knowledgeable group. I just bought an 05 Chevy dually last month with the Duramax and Allison transmisson. I've been drooling over the Duramax for years and now was the time. I'm looking at tweeking this thing without going to crazy. I want to add an air intake system (looking at AFE and Volant), an exhaust system (don't really know here, I want performance and nice sound but don't want it overly loud to where you can't hear yourself think) and a performance tuner (looked at Edge, Predator and Banks). With the performance tuners I'm really at a loss as they all seem good. I want the performance but I also tow a large boat (15,000) up and down the west coast. I plan to do the installation work myself.
Any input on the above would be greatly appreciated. :)

I have the Banks 6 Gun w/speed loader. So far it has worked well for me. Plenty of power. Others will chime in on their favorites.
One thing, as far as air intakes go, they have been proven not to give any HP/TQ increase over stock. Also the stock AC Delco air filter is better than some of the other types you oil. Some put the air intakes on to get a louder turbo whistle. I didn't install the K&N that came with the Banks system.
But search around here, there is a ton of info that's been gone over a ton of time.
Oh and welcome!

I tried an air intake and was not happy. I also did the 4" exhaust with no results other than codes. I settled on the stock exhaust "kitty-less" and the Predator. Love the results. My other LLY is "kitty-less" also and we put a flowmaster muffler on last night. Love the sound, but waiting to see if we get the codes. I will use the Predator to check. Thats another advantage of it.

I have the Banks Power Pack system on my truck, it includeds exhaust, air intake filter, compressor wheel,Big hoss chip with 5 levels of programming, intercooler, waste gate acuator, trans command for automatics(not included in mine because I have 6 speed maual), gauges for Boost and EGTs.
Installed it my self and took about 10 hours but it was well worth the price and time. Instead of buying piece by piece from different companies, check out Banks kits. But as with all things do alot of research before spending the money, I did and I am very happy. Best 3 grand I ever spent. Power increase outstanding
Hope this helps
Good luck

Hoghunter- I suggest going with the Diablosport Predator for extra power. The Predator has proven to be the smoothest chip/programmer on the market with excellent features and power. I have tried just about every chip on the market and the Predator ranks right up there at the top.
We carry the MBRP exhaust systems and believe them to be one of if not the best system on the market. The fit and finish is excellent and the installation is very easy. You also have Aluminized, T409 SS, and T304 SS to choose from. In cab noise is very close to stock. If you choose to remove your Cat converter, you will get a little more low rumble, cooler EGT's and quicker spoolup.
We also carry the AFE and Volant intakes. If you are looking at purchasing everything together, we can put together a package deal for you. Let me know if I can help.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the truck! Dually's rock baby, yeah! :cool2:
Get yourself a cold one and do some reading. You will find Predator, E/J w/attitude, Hypertech, Banks and Bully Dog are consistently mentioned when it comes to tuners. Some of the guys are looking for "balls to the wall" power, others are looking for additional hp/tq for pulling power. Some tunes are better "out of the blocks" while others have "more grunt". I was looking for grunt. :D
$3k is a bit too expensive for my budget. I'm doing a "poor man's" modification which entails: E/J w/attitude($645) for extra power, tranny protection, EGT protection, built-in gauges(EGT probe install $130), etc.; water injection ($580) to lower EGT's and increase hp/tq; drill holes in CAT ($0) to minimize exhaust restriction without throwing codes. I do plan to purchase a SS exhaust tip for the stock exhaust. If the CAT mod doesn't improve EGT's significantly I'll go with MBRP's 409 stainless 4" with 5" SS tip($550).
All together these mods will run between $1200-$1700. Not bad considering I can gain 100hp/200tq while reducing EGT's. If/when I ever decide to upgrade the tranny the extra power is already available. Have fun! JJ :)
