we have a allis chalmers 8070 tractor that is having injector pump problems. the problem is this: while driving the tractor, once the rpm's got to 2,200 rpm, the engine would go wild. the tach was head for 3,000 rpm and you can here the engine rev to the moon. you have to pull the throttle lever back past half throttle to control it agian. we do not know whats causing this. we suspect it might be the govenor. we really do not want to take the pump anywhere to have it fixed because we have done that before and when we got it back, they had the timing in the pump messed up and it destroyed the engine (took a chunk out of a pistion, and bent a push rod) but it did still run. just wondering if anyone had much experience or knows someone that knows a lot about theses pumps. i forget what the name of the pump is but it is not roosamaster (spelling?) need to get it fixed for field work because it has seen up to and even past 3,000 rpm (from own experience) and if that happens to many times it will break sometime. any help appreciated.

I've got a really great pump place close by. I know they ship stuff. I've had over a dozen pumps fixed by them. never any problems and fast turn around if needed. they may even have the pump in stock and could swap w/ you. I'd say you're doing more damage letting it rev away. I get it fixed ASAP.
don't know what happened to your pump before but it just puts in fuel and if timing was off that bad it shouldn't run. most pumps can only go on one way or where you able to get it 180* off when you replaced the pump.

Does it smoke when the rpms run up? Sure sounds like a pump problem.

nope no smoke at all, it just takes off like there is no stop. the tractor also runs hot. we just got this tractors engine back together knowing the pump had this problem but we dont run it to the point of "the take off" we had the radiator out and we spent a lot of time washing it out, straighting the fins and what not and it still gets hot even just going down the road and pulling a hill with a empty fertilizer buggy behind it. we have another tractor same model and everything, but it is a 4wd model and has 1,500 pounds of weight on the front and has duals. we do not have a problem with that getting hot at all even while pulling a fold up disk through the fields all day.
What is the pump number?
ill have to get back to you with the pump number.
thanks for all the help

Sounds like you may be over fueling, if you get black smoke then you are and need to turn the pump down.

the thing is, the pump was fine, then one day i was going down the road with a full load of manure and that is the first time, just out of the blue, the engine took off and it has done it ever since. we did not have the pump off or apart before that, it just one day started it and has done it ever since. dad says he might just bite the bullet and buy a new one cause this one also has a lot of hours on it. but that other tractor we have that is the exact same except it is a 4wd model has at least 10,000 hours on it and we never have had a problem with it.

This tractor should have a Stanadyne DM pump on it.
It sounds like the metering valve inside the injection pump is sticking. This could be possibly fixed on the tractor if it isn't too bad. Fixing it on the engine isn't a common practice but if you really wanted to you could do it.
If you need a fuel injection shop pm or call me I will get you taken care of.
