: Lly Power Problems
cjbuilders 04-20-2008, 08:48 PM LLY with volant intake, 4 inch straight pipe, and PPE set to 160 hp setting, suncoast stage III kit ,40000 miles .....i tried to run my buddys LB7 starting at 60mph and he smoked me, all he has is a bully dog power pup 90 hp and his truck has over 200000 miles on it....whats the deal? feels like i am draggin a trailer or something....i just changed the fuel filter less than 1000 miles.....if u got any ideas i would greatly appriecated
Stove 04-20-2008, 10:18 PM Did you set any codes?? Is the FPRV shimmed? Do you have a lift pump? Has it always been doggy, or is this something new.
cjbuilders 04-21-2008, 07:07 PM i didnt set any codes, no shimming, what is FPRV.., i dont have a lift pump..... i use to eat his truck for lunch before i done the transmission kit and changed to the PPE tuner. i got rid of my bully dog power pup 90hp because it always sent the tranny in limp mode even after i got the trans work done....you think my problem is not enough fuel? i know it gets plenty on the bottom with huge cloud of black smoke but i never considered it running out on the top end...
THE TECH 04-21-2008, 08:24 PM Sounds strange that you would have an issue after a trans build. You should be able to put more power down now.
Stove 04-21-2008, 09:47 PM You should be putting down more with a tranny upgrade. Do you have the bully dog to go back to? That might be a huge tell if the power is there with a smaller tune, you might be running out of fuel.
FPRV is the fuel pressure relief valve. When bigger tunes are put in that cause a spike in fuel rail pressure it pops open and normally get a 1093 code. I have 1093'ed before, but not set the code. I doubt that is your problem, but with bigger tunes you are likely going to have to shim the fprv, or put in a race valve.
Not real sure, might be lack of fuel on the big end?? Or a tranny issue. How long have you been running bigger power? Maybe the tranny is learning?
One of the more experienced guys might have a better idea!
stacks04 04-22-2008, 07:54 AM just out of curiosity what codes were setting because of the b-dog. a built trans shouls hold the power it puts out no problem.
jmg343 04-22-2008, 08:28 AM If you are running out of fuel on the top end, which Id suspect you are, then that big cloud your blowing at the start should clear up fairly quickly.
Who did the tranny kit?
If you keep your foot in it, does it get up and go after a bit, or does it feel like a dog all the way?
cjbuilders 04-22-2008, 09:45 PM the big cloud does clear up fairly quickly, off the start she is a rocket ship but when i get to 3rd and 4th is when she acts up, if i keep my foot in it just keeps laggin unless i let out of the fuel some, and then it seems to take off faster after i take the pedal off the floor a bit.........if i need more fuel then what is the solution,,,,bigger pump and FPRV change or shimmed........also do u guys suggest i do the EGR blocker plate and fingers....what exactly are fingers???
Tony Burkhard 04-22-2008, 09:55 PM Shopping list
1; Fass lift pump
2; PPE fuel pickup
3; PPE FPRV shim kit
4; EGR blocker and fingers
5; open up your fuelrail fittings
Just for starters
michael nelson 04-22-2008, 10:06 PM I got the same code...STOCK
demp223 04-22-2008, 10:37 PM back it down to a lower tune like a 120hp or little smaller. You should be ok on top until you get mods done and your trans will get power to ground quicker than your buddies.I know I dropped a full second off 0-60 time with trans/converter upgrade alone with same tune.
