He hooked the cables to his car's battery, very minimal spark when touched together on my end. Almost dead. I hooked up the positive, hooked up the neg to the ground post, and when he turned the key, there was a little bit of a spark action, and then nothing.
My truck stayed running, but there was no juice going through the cables.
We tried another set of cables, and no good.
So we went to the rear battery, and we had plenty of juice, cables sparked when touched, etc., so we knew the cables were good. The we went to the front battery again, and this time we hooked up to the battery terminals and not the ground post, and we had juice. Turned his car right over.
I tried the negative on the ground post again, and no juice. No matter how I tried, no juice when I used the ground post. The funny thing is it was working when we first hooked it up.
I'm kinda nervous that something blew. I turned the truck off, and she started right back up. Parked ever since.
Any thoughts? Why the heck would the ground post not work?? Could I have blown something jumping a POS Buick?
Rick
Are you using that metal bracket label "GROUND"
Many of them are insulated with paint and don't work on the earlier Dmaxes. You have to remove them an abrade the paint off.

It's a 2003. Didn't look like there was any coating. And it worked at first, till he turned the key!
Should I worry?

Just touching the cables to see if you have voltage doesn't mean they will conduct 350+ amps for starting. The remote hook ups were installed to lessen the chance of arcing near the battery. Later! Frank

Had the same problem on my '02. Hooked up a DVM to the Ground spade and the positive nut (or the + terminals on the batteries) and it read 13.6v. Still it would not take enough current to jump start a riding lawn mower.
Take the Ground spade off the truck, buff off the spade and the corresponding spot on the engine. Tighten up the spade and do it again. It'll work.

An easy way to to see if your getting enough amperage through the cables is with a simple nipple test. By applying saliva to ones nipples an hooking positive to the left and negative to the right one can determine the amps fairly accuratly. A few amps(poor connection) will result in a slight "buzz" feeling. Now if you wet yourself and are flung backwards and cunvulse on the ground you are getting the proper amperage to jump start your vehicle. I wouldnt try this if you have a pace maker......
BTW......when attaching cables I alwasy like to wiggle them a bit, scrapes the crud off for a better transfer of the juice:naughty: :grd:
I'll let parts guy take the topic becasue :Nothing_f

Brings back a partial memory...
Something about a Magneto...
From a Minneapolis Moline tractor...
And the neighbor kid's dad handing me a wire saying "hold this a second" :devilfing (I swear he had it in for me...)
The part I really remember was kinda close to ...:nutkick:

If you're feeling a bit depressed, you can also hook one to each temple. :rocking:
