I have a friend who has a 2000 dodge which ran red fuel with no problems. If he trades for an '05 duramax will using red fuel cause any problems? My friends cummins did not have a cat.

Red diesel is the same as the diesel you get from a pump. Its just a different color.

The red is off road fuel that has a high sulfur content. Road fuel is marketed as low sulfur. I didn't know if anybody out there who knows what cetane, ash content, etc. are could spew some numbers that I would understand.

There's been alot of talk about this in the past. Many in the know say that Red Diesel is only red due to the dye put into it to distinguish it from other diesel for enforcement purposes only as no road tax is paid on the Red and it is normally not permissible for road use.
