It completely depends on what year model. As of the 2005 year models the Powerstroke is the loudest. The Dodge and the GM are pretty quiet for diesels. Some the the older engines are pretty dang loud.

I drove all 3 before I bought my Duramax, and the Ford was by far the loudest. The Dodge I actually thought was the quietest.. prob has more to do with the sound of an inline 6 over an 8 tho.....

I beleive D***e uses a double pilot injection technique which makes it a little quieter than the DMAX. The F**d is much louder.

You could hear a Dodge comming miles down the road in the past but they are pretty quiet in the 05 models. Power Stroke seems to the noise king now. New Cummins and D/Max seem about same to me.
