You can runit in your truck without issues. It has better lubricity values than ULSD. i lose a little fuel mileage when i run it in mine. It costs the same as regular diesel tho. MFG is just makin a killin cause it costs much less to make.

I just did my first fill up with B99... I noticed less smoke but the truck runs a lot smoother. I also noticed the my EGT's are lower... I haven't done a mileage check yet... mostly because I forgot to reset my trip meter...

You would think biodiesel would be cheaper. The Co-op own station around here selling I think B20 and is 45 cents higher than standard ULSD. Makes no sense to me.

Biodiesel is NOT cheaper to make than #2. The price of soy is way up these days and that is its main feedstock. Biodiesel is also more expensive to transport because it can't be put into a pipelines and has to be distributed by truck. Neither do biodiesel makers get the same tax breaks, incentives and credits that the oil companies get. However, it requires the same road tax as #2.

My co-op has been selling biodiesel at 50 to 75 cents more per gallon than #2 for years, and they just break even on it. NO profit at all.

Mostly the biodesel distributors are doing it to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and for environmental reasons. Trust me, getting rich in biodiesel is not part of the deal. There is no great conspiracy in the biodiesel community to screw the public.

It's funny - now that #2 is $4/gallon my co-op's phone is ringing off the hook from people wanting to use biodiesel because they THINK its cheaper to make and buy. Well it isn't and it never has been.

be careful about running biodiesel if your rig is still under warranty........GM only allows for up to a 5% solution (b5) or lower...anything else, and your fuel pump/injectors, fuel lines go...your up shit creek

It isnt worth buying from a co-op so why dont you guys make it on your own?
or if some of you do, share that info, because when people see this thread and say f*** biodiesel then, we lose.

I support biodiesel 100%, but if anyone expects commercial biodiesel to reduce fuel costs, it won't happen anytime soon. Sorry, but that's reality. On the other hand, there are plenty of people who make their own biodiesel - just do a search here and with Google; and yes, one can save money doing that.

I use commercial biodiesel (and pay extra for it) because of its environmental benefits and because doing so supports a fledgling industry that has the potential to greatly reduce our dependence on imported oil. To me, that's "worth it".

I agree with the above statement, that is why I am going to be getting me a Biopro 150 and make the stuff myself for around a buck a gal. I am not really doing it to go green but rather to save me $$ so I can still drive my pickup. Yes I do plan also to run B100 during the summer then blend during the winter.

It wont quite be a buck a gallon even if you make it yourself. Since people started making it themselves and more people are buying it commercially the price of methanol has skyrocketed from about 5 bucks a barrel to 75. I am just getting into making it myself and I have found it isnt a buck a gallon, however, if you can get enough free oil it is still def cheaper than buying fuel. I will probably make it and mix it 50/50 with LSD.

I thought I read somewhere that the feds. were giving distributors a $1 per gallon credit . Is that true or false?

Ya but you also will have to pay tax to get the tax refund :duh:

There is a $0.50/gallon tax credit for biodiesel blenders/formulators. That's why you see so much B99 - it has been "blended" with 1% No. 2 to qualify it for the credit. I am pretty sure that credit is passed along to customers because the price of biodiesel dropped when the credit took effect a couple of years ago. That is the only Federal payment, subsidy or tax credit biodiesel gets as far as I know. It's nothing like the huge credits the petroleum industry gets for manufacturing petroleum fuels.

You know of a Methanol supplier who sold a 55 gallon drum for $5.00 and now he's selling for $75.00???? Who and where?...I'M ALL IN!!

My research has shown Methanol prices pretty stable in the past few years but it goes a little higher in the winter time. I have a supplier that sells me a 55 gallon drum for $155.00. He said the MOST he's sold it for was $175.00 a drum. Prices for this stuff vary dramatically so shop around.

Where do you get methanol for $175 a barrel here it's closer to $250.

I just bought two 55 gallon barrels for $155 each with a $20 core deposit on the drums. I'm getting it from Rocky's Pit Stop which is a fuel outfit at Milan Dragway....Milan MI. He sells a lot to BioDiesel homebrewers. He told me his highest price ever has been $175 (minus $20 core deposit). Pretty damned good from what I hear.
