Cats only in Challenger line up, the rest of the AGCO stable uses SISU, some perkins, and I believe Deutz/MAN in the Fendts.

Cat owns Perkins Cat power was in Massey,Oliver,White, Steigers and Versatiles and New Holland ran 3208s in the Early TR Combines The Gleaner A85 is Cat Powered too C13 i think Then the Challengers and the Big 4 Wheel Drive MTs i would take a guess to say Oliver was the first to use cat in 2wd tractors 3156 then 3208 Then Steiger in 4wds

Oliver 2255, only Oliver to use it I think, White, the full line of earlier Articulated 4wds used the V-8 Cats it 4-150, 4-180, 4-210, 4-175, Turboed in the 4-225. 2-180s had them, not sure on the rest of the 2wd. NH combines used 3208s in the TR combines, Steiger & Versatile 4wds used 3208 in earlier tractors, and as they got newer, different sized I-6 Cat or Cummins, I think the late 80's early 90's Steiger/ Case IH had Cummins standard, and Cat optional. All except the one w/ the 1150 Cummins, there was no Cat option.

I Almost forgot the International V8s in the 45-4786 used the DVT 800 the smaller 14-1568 used the DV550. The last big massey 4 wheeler used the Detroit 12.7 it was first Electronic engine. Then came along the Agcostars with detroit or cummins

I work with CAT and only the 855's and up (which are the rubber track type and then the 955's are articulating ones) use "real CAT engines". Agco owns all ag tractors now...including the challengers. So they are all agco now but the 855 and up still are CAT powered, the smaller ones are pretty much MF with yellow paint.

Rome articulated tractors had the 3408 v8 cat aswell as the 650 cummins. Is it wrong that just listening to a 3408 straight piped arouses me?!?:wtf:

The ones that get me going are the old 2 banger JD's and the old oil burners and even though they don't make any big engine noises, the steamers are just awesome. Excuse me......:o:

I can't remember what exact model, maybe a Panther, Maybe a Coager, but I have worked on a Stieger that had a four and a quarter cat in it. Sure sounded sweet.

The 1805 Massey's used the 3208 cat too.

our stieger had a 350 BC cummins w/ the roadranger tranny so I'm sure any big diesel would work in them.

The 700 series tractors are powered by Cat C9 engines.

Talking about good sounding machines i always like the 2 stroke Detroit Powered olivers they made big power in their day for what they were. Another cool thing is the Steiger With the Allison Auto Dont know what it is model wise but they were fun to drive. If i can find 1 i am gonna buy it up

We used to have a A-C articulated tractor that was really a Stieger painted orange. That particular tractor had the 555 "triple-nickle" Cummins. Super strong yet super simple. Made by someone who actually thought about having to work an the thing.

Sure miss that old tractor.

I seen a AC articulated tractor that had 2 exhaust pipes sticking out the hood, is that the same one?

There is a company here in town that is doing work on one of our roads. They have a very impressive fleet of odd looking tractors. They are like 4WD articulates, but they are adapted to have a scraper body pinned to the rear. There is one in the group that appears to be the brute. They were running a ripper attachment on that one. Had the thing buried up to the frame and that tractor didn't even seem to grunt. And I don't know what transmissions these things have, but man do they FLY when they are empty and heading back to the scraping site!

Dad talked to the company who supplies the fuel to this crew. According to him they are averaging around 2000 gallons of diesel a day!

only 2000 a day does not sound super high when you figure most big tractors hold 500 gallons lol

Are you talking about the construction going on at 52nd Ave. in Fargo by chance? :D

That's the construction!!!

Those machines are neat! I tried to snap some pics, but I don't think they turned out. I will get them to my computer and see.

(I was kind of driving and shooting at the same time.......)

Here's one of the smaller ones. Some of the bigger ones have dual stacks on them. This is the only picture that turned out. I wasn't driving at this time, but the flag person was sure wondering why the hell I was taking a picture! :D

Your pic looks a lot like the MRS I-110 scraper 15 cu. yd. we used in Vietnam(U.S. Navy) The MRS stood for Mississippi Road Service, another one of those lowest bidder type government purchase deals. They had a Detroit 6v53 or 71 series(can't remember which) and 6 speed Allisons. They were powerless POS's, our Euclid TS-24's ran circles around them. Also they had the dozer blade in front like your pic. They were 4 wheel steer or 2 wheel(your choice) not articulated.

Dont you have a diesel place decal on your truck? That would explain everything. :D

*LOL* I was in my little Subaru wagon though!

It is tough to get a good picture with a camera phone and without stopping and holding up traffic. I tried to snap a few more, but they didn't turn out really well either.

I still want to find the one that has the dual stacks. That one seems to be the powerhouse. From what I could see, it appears to be twin turbo also. Maybe somebody near the FM area is on this site that is working with this crew? I would like to know more about these things.

Also thank you Larry! I know that this outfit came from a few states away, but I forget where they came from. My dad and I were wondering why they would haul all this way with all that equipment. Why they wouldn't do like further down the road where they have a CAT tractor pulling dual scrapers. Get a few of these big tractors out there, run tandem scrapers, and they would probably safe money in the long run.

Oh, and for anyone who cares, that field in the background of the second pic is one that I farm in. (Except for this year and next due to the construction)

I'd bet its the same outfit that has done some of the work on I94 between Dickinson and Bismarck. I'd say they are Clark or Michigan tractor units. Can pull a mounted scraper, push blade, tires or sheep-foot packer wheels. I don't recall what engines were on them, but I'd almost bet on 1150 K cummins.

I should have clarified it better. Mississippi Road Service was a Co. that made this equiptment for the U.S. Government. They were not a construction company, sorry for the confusion!

They sure look like that, but they do pivot in the middle. Perhaps a newer model maybe? They are some interesting looking machines though!

Your first project is to get us pictures of the beast.

What would you do with a machine like that, it must be a big one?

Got a little closer yesterday. They had traffic stopped so that they could cross the bridge.
