I'm seriously considering selling my van. I've thought about listing it in the Market Place and or eBay for a while but I'm not absolutely positive I want to sell it. I love my van but I can't deal with $.85 (plus) more per gallon for diesel. I drive 200 miles round trip to work 4 days a week and it's killing me. I want to sell it because the van cost me $525 a month in payments on top of the $800 plus a month in fuel. I don't tow much at all (thank God or I'd be broke). About once a month I tow a small dump trailer 50 miles round trip to the dump and back but that's about it other than 3 times I've towed my three 4 wheelers and twice I've towed my JD 4610. 90% of the mileage is highway.

It's had 3 trips to the dealer for the fuel filters and oil to be changed and once for the read end fluid (required under warranty at 5K miles).

It's due for it's 50K service now. It will be going into the dealer for trans fluid/filter, fuel filters (both) grease job. It's always had Rotella synthetic put in it after it had 5K on it. I just changed the oil this morning with Rotella synthetic.

Details:
2006 LLY with 155" WB with the chrome package.
52K miles with transferable 100K bumper to bumper warranty. ($1,800)
Cruise, tilt, power locks and windows. (nice for locking it up)
Adrian Steel package plus I've added quite a few shelves for fold up saw horses and my 12" Dewalt miter box.
Weather Guard Safari Rack ( $750)
Diamond plate aluminum deck bolted on top of the rack ($350)
Tow package with electronic brake controller.
Brand new tires. (less than 500 miles on them)
PYO wheels off my 2004 pickup.

The 6 disk Bose head unit will not go with the van as I need it for my Tahoe when I decide to sell it. Right now my Tahoe has the NAV unit in it.
Sticker on this van was over $36K. (I still have the sticker)
Book value is $22,900 without considering the rack and Adrian Steel package. It has one very small dent in the bumper where I hooked the trailer too hard but other than that there isn't a scratch on it and the inside looks like new too. I take very good care of my stuff.

If anyone's interested PM me. And I'll send you some pictures of it.

Good luck with the sale. The high diesel is making many sell their trucks.
What would you replace it with?

Not really sure what to do. Since I don't tow much I was thinking about getting a 2005 Astro Van. I have to have a van, a pick will not do. I've had two Astro vans before and I couldn't kill them. I put 218K on one of them before I had one single problem. At 280K the wiring harness burnt up and I trashed the van.

I sold my 2004 LB7 on eBay back in January and got $24K for it. But fuel was $1 a gallon less back then. The van, for what it is, gets great mileage. If I didn't have a $525 payment I would just keep it and deal with the fuel costs but $1,300 a month for fuel and a payment...it's a bit too much.

Come to think of it I've never had any luck at all selling much of anything on the Diesel Place except little things like tires and radios. I've bought and sold several vehicles, three 4 wheelers, and a JD tractor on eBay and I've never had a problem selling or buying anything in 9 years. Maybe I'll try that route.

Try listing it on craigslist. They have big auto sections. That's where I found my latest vehicle. Craigslist is free so I'd place ads in all the WV cities and in a few large cities within driving distance.

That's a nice looking van = I can't imagine you'd have too much trouble selling it - there are always businesses that need them. Take off the first two paragraphs of your first post and your craigslist ad is practically written already!

Well, I'm sorry that you have to leave the ranks of you people with diesel engines. If that happened I'd probably drive off a cliff:(

Not an option. I grew up in Fairfax County, Virginia but I moved away from there in 89 because of all the rude, self-centered yuppie assholes, the extremely high taxes and the extreme over-crowding. My taxes 19 years ago on a 1200 sq. ft. house on 1/2 an acre were $350 a month on top of a $1500 a month house payment. My house will be paid off next year and then I'll be debt free except for the van. If I tried to have anything close to what I have now, (11 acres and a 4,400 square foot house), in the D.C. metro area. The cheapest livable house in that area on an 1/8 of an acre lot is around $400-$500K plusa bout $6-7Kin taxes, if not more. Besides, I hate having neighbors and where I live there are none within site. Down there I would have to pay $3-4 million (plus a killer tax bill) for what I have in WV and $1K a year in taxes. Maybe I'll just go to 3 days a week and keep the van. YEAH, 4 day weekends...that'll will work for me. :D

That's not a bad option. Depending on how much stuff you hve in the van, throw a cot and sleeping bag in the back and sleep in the van one night a week. I've "camped" in my van many a night. Or find a cheap motel one night a week (tax-deductable!) and save a round-trip a week. That's a 20% savings in fuel right there. High fuel prices are going to make a lot of us think of ways to save.

Or, if you have a safe place to park the van, leave it at the work site and do the commute in a car.
