Hello all, I'm about to buy a 1995 Chev Suburban 2500 LT 4x4 6.5 TD from a dealer (yikes!). As I called them today to solidify plans to go see them tomorrow, the dealer tells me that the serpentine belt is being replaced. Being unfamiliar with this type of engine (though I plan on getting MUCH more familiar with it once I own one), is this a good thing? Is it similar to a vehicle's timing belt?
Also, it looks like the tires on the rig are studded for snow-since I wont be needing that feature, can I simply 'yank' the studs out or do I have to get new tires?
Any response would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Howdy Stockdad welcome to the site, stroll over to FAQs & welcome note at top of this forums header; since you say you are new to GM 6.5, there is a lot of info there for you to digest.

Similar yes in appearance, functions to drive accessories only, 6.5 has a conventional set of timing gears & chain, unless someone upgraded to a fully geared set.

OK, after using the search feature (probably should've done that BEFORE posting, sorry), it looks like it's the belt that drives the alternator, etc., so it's an easy fix and not indicative of further problems with the vehicle.
Btw, this Suburban has 130K. They're bottom dollar (haha) is $7550. This thing looks to be in immaculate shape.

just out of 120k injection pump warranty. ask the dealer about records of pump replacement as thats almost more important than milege on the truck.
